Now, let me give you a few examples of what allegory is and is not: The Pilgrims Progress is an allegory. The protagonist, Christian, represents christians on the road to heaven, 'the celestial city'. Paradise Lost is not an allegory. The protagonist, Adam, does not represent anybody else. He is literally the same Adam as in the bible. He travels through hell, which does not represent anything other than itself. The difference is not in the naming of things, but in the presentation, Aslan is Christ represented as a lion. Eru is God, represented as God.
