More suggested reading...Cordwainer Smith!
If you have not read Cordwainer Smith, you have not read Science Fiction! This guys stories are fascinating, and so was he!
His real name was Paul Linebarger, and he was some kind of specialist in psychological warfare. He wrote Sci-Fi in his spare time, and kept his identity secret. In the sixties, at Sci-Fi conventions, all the well known authors would talk about, and respect his work, but none of them knew who he was! They assumed he was Heinlein or some other great author, writing under a pseudonym, to try out new ideas. He revealed himself later on. There is now going to be a new Sci-Fi award in his name... ""the Cordwainer," a new award to be presented on September 2, 2001, at the 59th World Science Fiction Convention or "Philcon," in Philadelphia. Jurors for the award: Robert Silverberg, who will present it, Gardner Dozois, Scott Edelman, and John Clute." All of Cordwainer Smith's short stories, and novellas can now be found in one hardback entitled "The Rediscovery of Man". Do a websearch and read his Bio. An amazing author, that died too young!
