Bilbo le Hobbit
My class went to a French bookstore as part of a trip, and I bought a book called "Bilbo le Hobbit," which is, obviously, a translation of The Hobbit into French . I can't really read French too well, as I'm only in French I, but I couldn't pass up getting it

Re: Bilbo le Hobbit
Si tu veux de l'aide, je suis la!! I've read parts of Fellowship in French. Somehow things get mixed up in the translation. I'm usually surprised to see how many JRRT fans there are in other countries, because if they read the translation first, they missed so much. OTOH, I don't know how it reads in, say, Scandinavian languages. Maybe it works better. BTW Frodo is called Frodon in Le Seigneur des Anneaux.

Re: Bilbo le Hobbit
My mom reads/speaks French pretty well so she can help me
I considered getting LotR too but I didn't have enough money. I brought $20 and the thin paperback Hobbit was $15! |

Hobbit...
I've got a copy of
El Hobbit (Spanish) El Senor de Los Anillos (Spanish) Lo Hobbit (Italian) They're great for trying to sharpen up your language skills, 'cause when you're really familiar with it in English you can catch some new vocabularly! |

Re: Hobbit...
anyone read tolkien in hebrew? ( i haven't, but many ppl in my family have. i don't like the translations that much, theres no way of pronouncing, let alone writing down the names... try 'denethor' or even...'gilthoniel'... argh)

Re: Hobbit...
I could probably read the Hebrew version, only if it had vowels.

Re: Hobbit...
I've read the Finnish-translation of LotR.
And yeah, things can get a little messed up when translated. Someday I will read the English and the original Lotr. |

Re: Hobbit...
Anyone know if there's a German translation out there? That would be cool to read in German class, as all of us...well...all 3 of us...are big Tolkien fans.
