Yay Spiderman! (w/ some spoilers)
I just got back from a great friday night with spiderman all hyped and shown in half the theatres in Manila! Woohoo!
There were some differences from the old 70's movie and plot regarding the web. They made it a natural ability (in the hands, not like where real spiders shoot them from). There are tons of eye-candy. Of course you'd be fooling yourself if you went for a deep plot but I enjoyed the rollercoaster shots as well as the implied references to superman. The soundtrack, however, reminds me of Batman. In short: It's like a cross between superman, batman, and Neo. Enough rambling for now. I gotta mangle another song...

I was listening to the radio and heard someone mocking it. . It looks really good and it better be better than what the commercials say it is. IS IT????

Well, whatever the other reviews are, I'd say that if you let me choose between getting an X-men DVD or a Spiderman DVD, I'd get SPIDEY!
In fact, if I had an X-men DVD, I'd trade it for one!

It should be a good movie. Spiderman is cool and Sam Raimi is a good director. I will see it sometime soon.

I enjoyed it. I haven't ever read the comic or anything (I think I caught the TV series a few times), but it was easy to become engrossed in the story. There were some corny moments, but they were clearly intentional. The special effects were very good, but not particularly groundbreaking (certain scenes pay homage to "The Matrix.")
All in all, it was a fine opener to what looks to be an outstanding summer movie season.

What Ben said. It was a really fun movie with great action scenes. IMO, it was better than X-Men. The CG isn't very great, but it never really bothered me. Lot's of cool stuff, and I can't wait for Spiderman II. Although there is something at the ending that will probably tick you off. It bothered everyone, but I think it will be resolved in the next movie.
I'm ready to call it quits and call this the best movie of the year. Oh wait, there's still Star Wars, Minority Report, Austin Powers, Men in Black, Signs, and Lord of the Rings! I'm ready to call it quits and proclaim this the best year in movies ever. Oh wait, Matrix 2 and 3 come out next year, as well as Return of the King, Hulk, X-Men 2 (?), and a bunch more! |

Well... I liked X-Men and if Spiderman is better than that... I will probably really like this movie. Let's hope so!

I thought it was good, but predictable. (even though I have never read a spiderman comic book.) gdl, what part at the ending were you talking about? I didn't think it is a good as X-men but it was excellent. I can't wait till The Hulk! I was also distracted from Spiderman by the though of Episode II.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ gdl96, the thing that makes it a little more interesting after the turn down is when MJ touched her lip and wondered about somtething just after Peter P. went off. (He thinks she's heartbroken but he doesn't know that she MIGHT know his predicament.
Yeah, MJ realizes that Peter Parker is Spiderman at the end. Its very obvious. She finally put the evidence together. The voice was the same, same size, etc. I think she recognized him by the kiss she gave him though. Yeah, when she puts her hand to her lips it means that shes realized something.
That thought did come to me, but I wasn't sure. And I think that nobody can be 100% sure until the next movie.
I'm sure the people who know the comic storyline (not me) would know, but I think the rest of us can only guess.
Another problem: The completely uninspired, dull score by Danny Elfman. A superhero franchise starter like this should've had at least one recognizable theme, but I couldn't tell you one thing about the score. The Superman and Batman themes are classic, well-known themes that helped set the tone of their movies. Spiderman was missing that.
If you really think about it, it's just Peter/Spidey having one 2 hr long flashback though he's not a very good storyteller. LOL.
I guess that's why he's a photographer.
I've read the comics since I was six, and I really liked the movie.
Never really read a comic book in my life. Neither has ben. I mean i've been to comic book stores in the past, but just to look at the cool stuff they have. At the old barbers I went to they had some comics...so i'm sure that i have read some. But not really.
comic books are just expensive now. they used to be a few cents when Spider-man first came out in the 60s. ] Besides, whats the point of buying them now? You are never going to get the first issues or first editions or what not unless you pay hundreds of dollars for them and if you read them you diminish the value. I did go into the movie knowing the spider-man plot though. I used to watch the Spider-man cartoon on fox 5....wow they haven't aired that in years..maybe 3-4. But i wasn't really a big spider-man fan. I watched it when it was on. Ben probably saw the stuff when I happened to have the tv on. Right now, I cant name any other spider-man villans besides the green goblin, and I know there were dozens. Ben really liked X-men though. He never read the comic, neither did i, but he watched most of the cartoon episodes. they haven't aired that in years either. now they have that New x-men generation show...its really bad.
I get what your saying, Hobbit. The comic book industry is now a collector's industry. I am not a spiderman comic book fan but I'm an X-men fan. Since it's very difficult to find missing issues and they are usually more expensive, I went for the graphic novels which give you one whole story and are book-bound.
On spidey villains, I think I remember that there's also a Doctor Octopus who has mechanical arms sprouting from behind his waist.
