Uhm...you can't really survive healthily withough B12...
I don't care if anyone is a vegetarian, as long as THEY don't try to shove their ideas down my throat. I like veggies, y'know, but I dont mind meat. My dad hunts, but not for sport, we actually all of the meat on the animal, and he's an incredibly ethical hunter. He won't shoot unless he thinks he can kill the deer as quickly (thus with the least amount of pain) as possible.

Veggies are a good thing. Most people don't get enough of them, and I personally like them. I also happen to like meat as well. Of all of the choices of lifestyle, choosing to be a vegetarian is rather harmless in comparasin to some other things. I really don't have a problem with it. I don't really see any benefits, but I guess if people don't want to harm animals then they at elast have some excuse.

I HATE veggies. I still eat them, but for the most part I swallow them whole. I think the only vegetables I like are carrots. I like fruit though. And meat.

Over in the meat-eating thread, crickhollow posted the lyrics to "Carrot Juice is Murder" by Arrogant Worms. I recommend downloading this song, even if you are a vegetarian. It's good for a laugh. In fact, I laugh every time I hear it.
Well? What are you waiting for? Download it.

I remember hearing that the typical person swallows 8-12 bugs in their sleep in their life time... or something like that... I just remember the bugs and sleep part- then my brain went "Ewww..."

I am a vegetarian, too. I will not eat anything I can't kill. And I can't bring myself to kill cows, for instance. This rule allows me to eat fish, but I don't like fish. I respect hunters, except those who only take a trophy and leave the meat to rot, but they are rare. (Sorry, couldn't resist!) I had a cat and he ate animals that he caught. I never had a problem with that. My wife eats chickens in front of me and I don't rush to their defense. So I would say I'm pretty tolerant on it all... but...
The political idea behind whole foods is the "whole" part, not the "foods" part. The food that is grown or raised with conscious consideration of the planet, especially with an eye towards sustainability, helps take care of this world. I know some people think it is impossible for us to devour the whole thing, but they just don't see the size of the problem. There is a force like Sauron in the world yet, and agri-business is its name. Fight the power!

I've been veggie for 14 yrs. now. I'm really more of a carbatarian because I don't like veggies much. I'm into breads, cheese, fruit, and of course the spectrum of meatless meats.
I have no problem w/ others eating meat, but I do wish the animals could be treated better. I do dairy, but I feel bad that the cows are basically born and live their whole lives in a warehouse strapped to a machine. I became a vegetarian because the thought of eating what was once an animal walking around is icky to me. Last edited by azalea : 04-09-2002 at 09:44 PM. |

I just got a copy of Laurel's Cookbook for Vegetarians. Now, I don't normally like cooking, but this is a really cool book. It's got a whole section at the back that talks about nutrition and chemistry and vitamins and it's got all sorts of cool little charts and graphs and diagrams of molecules . . .

I'll have to look into that. I'm a carbitarian as well (hate those icky vegies), and my diet is somewhat constrained to certain food groups, and I'd love to change it, cos it's so boring! Bread, pasta, more bread. Plus, all those carbs aren't exactly great for you.

Heheheh, carrot juice constitutes murder hehehe, love the song!
8-12 bugs in a lifetime, ooops I thought is was three spiders every week! Not trying to outgross you guys but that's just what I seemed to have read somewhere. Could have been a typo, though. Is carbatarian or carbitarian or whatever another word for carnivore? Or just veggie-hater?
