Heheh. Well, if Tolkien got away with comparing fireworks to roaring trains, I figured I could get away with mentioning pickles.

Pickles! Midge, that is brilliant. Maybe you don't like pickles that much, but it seems like Magor does!

Long term food preservation. I think you may safely assume quite a lot of pickled things.

Oh, I hadn't even thought of that, how modern times have spoiled me.
Heheh, maybe I should rename 'Long Lost Leaves' into 'Long Lost Leaves: a Quest for the Entwives and Pickles'. I can already imagine Magor asking everyone we come across, even the Guardian: "So, do you happen to have pickles around here?" Could be a good running gag.

And now Nami wants cake. And pickled eggs. I think you're right, this is going to turn into a quest for a banquet.
I checked - Tabrîl left the group just *before* Radgast told Nami there weren't any scary First Age monsters lurking about. It seems they both have a tendency to highlight the worst-case scenario.

I also think that the balrog that Gandalf killed, was first age.
But I believe that it was the last of its kind, and that we won't risk meeting another.

In RPG's it pays to be prepared for worst case scenarios, they often happen.

So when an RP character says that we can be sure that so and so won't happen, that could be a hint that it will? Or is that even more so in single-author fanfiction?

Aha, that is the question, isn't it? Radagast is as wizard pretty knowledgable in certain matters. But just like Gandalf, even Radagast can get things wrong, as already seen.
I generally won't have Radagast say things just to put you guys on the wrong track. If he says something, he has every reason to think it is that way. But just like the rest, our wizard doesn't know all the facts just yet and is speculating about some things. And I did promise a RPG that moves off the beaten track, so if there is a balrog involved, it will have a good and novel reason to be there. But there are so endlessly many other options than balrogs...

A Balrog AND a Shelob? NO WAY! My characters are gonna jump ship if that's how it is!
Just kidding.

Well, technically we've had the Mirkwood spiders already, but that was before you joined. So maybe I need to revisit that theme and go a little bigger. Why stop at Shelob when you can go all Ungolianth?

Now that would put all the talk about evil squirrels in a different light!
Who would be the wise one then?

Hmm... Wouldn't it be terrible to get there and realize that "She" is Fimbrethil? They exploited the Entwives by stealing their leader's pets and making her keep her own kind hostage... That would be sick, and totally characteristic of Orcs. However.. I've always imagined Fimbrethil had more integrity than that, so that doesn't really flow in my mind...

What's the difference between "mondain" and "mundane"? I started to correct your spelling, Earn, but then I looked it up and I'm slightly confused.

I reckon 'mondain' is the French spelling (and also the Dutch spelling). Mundane is probably more correct for English. Sorry.
