The Geoffroy's Cat is named after the 19th century French zoologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire who identified Geoffroy's Cat as a different species when he studied his work as a professor of zoology in Paris, France.

Canids
Though once abundant over much of Eurasia and North America, it inhabits a very small portion of its former range because of widespread destruction of its territory, human encroachment of its habitat, and the resulting human-species encounters that sparked broad extirpation. = Wolf

Which is a medium-sized canid, which tends to be slightly larger than the dark cousin. Its pelt is coloured buff-grey. The back is darker grey than the underside, and the tail is black with a white tip. Indistinct white stripes are present on the flanks, running from elbow to hip. The boldness of the markings varies between individuals, with those of adults being better defined than those of juveniles. = Side-Striped Jackal

Which was an endemic insular canid, that occurred on the Italian island of Sardinia and the French island of Corsica (the two were joined for much of the Pleistocene). It became extinct when humans began to settle on the island. An unemployed person can be on this in England. Darn, darn, darn, I should know this. Heck, I've even been in the Levie museum, stood before the case with extinct animals, and I just can't remember any canid being among them...
