I just came back from my aunts birthday party. I talked with my cousins, including the one I've vented about several times before. We talked a bit about it and I think she really just doesn't get why we were all upset.
She's a sweet girl and really very sociable IF she focuses on you and not something else. Anyway, I'm glad we got to catch up a bit and put aside what happened before. We've been together since we were born, so I missed her. Now I'm a bit happy

I freaking LOVE MY NEW VOICE TEACHER.
If my previous teacher was moving into the big league, then this teacher is boot camp. In one lesson he fixed a lot of things. He's going to, I gather, basically treat this as if it were my first semester of voice training. From what he said, although he never said it right out, I don't think he was particularly impressed with the sound my teacher had been teaching me to make. I was worried at first that I would sound too heavy/forced because the sounds he has me making now are a lot louder/more forceful than what I was doing before... but it just sounds that way inside my head. On the outside the sound is very similar except that it just sounds a LOT more polished and it finally, FINALLY has a real 'baritonal' sound to it. Not so much of the 'I could be a tenor or a baritone and my voice hasn't decided which yet' sound that I disliked. And the results? With two days of practicing I can already do a pianissimo on a C4, then swell it back out, go back to pianissimo, swell it again... whatever I want. !!!!!!! It's not amazing, or incredible, and it's no more than a decent singer should be able to do but OMG FINALLY. I've been working to get 'control' of that note and the ones above it for ages and I could never figure out how to. I can't vocalize as high as I was before, but then again everything I -am- vocalizing sounds a ton better. I also have a lot more power to the notes, and the higher notes don't sound like they're stuck inside my mouth any more--they're a lot clearer/cleaner/more resonant. I've sort of lost my G4 for the moment (no great loss since it was really iffy to begin with), but I'm already getting back up to the E4, although it's not as good as the D#4 for some reason. I think I really do have a break between those notes. He said I might not get back up to the E4 this semester, but I have a feeling that if I work hard I'll be doing that and much higher within a short period of time. What surprises me is that now I can vocalize for as long as I used to be able to before I got sick, and I suspect I could go much longer. It takes a lot more energy to sing this way, but since it doesn't feel uncomfortable to sing this way I can motivate myself much more easily to continue putting the energy out. |

I rocked the friggin' hizouse today, and was awarded for my awesomeness by cheering and applause. It was truly a glorious, if unexpected, moment in my life .
Today in choir the director had about three or four of us baritones sing some lower notes on a descending scale. He not only took me lower than the other baritones, I was the only one who didn't go sharp on the bottom notes and I had a lot more fullness and volume in my sound than the other baritones. I think the applause was more because no one has ever heard me sing like that before. I've always been the guy with the kind of light, wimpy voice, but I'm a lot fuller sounding now, and I have more power and accuracy to boot. It was awesome . |

the second foot MRI finally showed the problem! They found a torn tendon and a pinched nerve - FINALLY!!!! The foot's been bad for 10 months now, and they FINALLY found the problem! I'm seeing the surgeon tomorrow for his recommendations. Finally there's hope that they can fix the poor lil footie!

Hmm, still got to think about which song to request from Tessar....
Great to hear that, RÃ*an! Finding the problem is the first part of solving it. *sending good feet vibes across the pond*

That's good to hear, RÃ*. Good luck with that!
I'm so glad I'm taking some microbiology this year.. Microbes are so damn cool.. 8) It seems like a completely different world, but then when you realize how they affect everything we do, every day.. "Do not despise bacteria, they're the only culture some people have" has never been more true. 8) And the Archaea (formerly known as archebacteria, but since they're not bacteria at all, they're now called archaeons) are another world - another domain of life, to use the correct term. So much we don't know.. I love it.

I got a show on the campus radio station. I applied a long time ago but never heard anything until now, I guess they didn't need people or something. I'm really excited though. I was going to do an almost exclusively visual-kei show but now I think I'll probably do a lot of different things but centering around visual-kei. I think it just sounds really cool to day "I do a visual-kei radio show in the middle of the night on Thursdays."

A zippo. A type of lighter.
But I hafta say, that's not much of an accomplishment, Tess. Unless you learned one of those tricks of lighting in on your jeans, or something like that.

Phew, glad it was just that.
Well, congrats Tess! ^_^ I still use matches. I am far less likely to burn my fingers that way...

I still use matches, 'cause it doesn't screw up the taste of my cigarette (if you let the sulfur burn off before you light up).

Houston, the kitten has landed.
I managed to get my dad to leave the kitten shelter with only one cat, although I imagine he's still drooling over that young Maine Coon cat. So now we've got a three-month old black kitten in my room as latest addition to the family. All the little dear needs now is a name. *ponders*

Well, it wasn't a zippo for reals, it was one of those little bic lighters but it was stuffed into a zippo-imitation case. The only trick was getting it to spin right... I mean everyone else could do it on the first try, it just took me a while to get the hang of it because I was afraid of burning myself at first .
