You know, that Chris Paolini guy has inspired me. If he can write fantasy books and get a super deal, so can I...

Oh, piddle, Hec. Don't EVER be inspired by someone you haven't read. The reason I picked up Vampire Chronicles is because I'd been getting interested in Anne Rice. ALWAYS read the works!

You've read Anne Rice's first book about Jesus, I'm supposing... I listened to half of it on CD...too personal.

Jeremy Irons!!!! Cool beans; I love JI!
I've never read the book; tried to once, didn't much like the beginning--just too... juvenile, maybe. Anyway, I compare all fantasy to Tolkien, so most fall miserably short.

Yeah I would agree that the books are just ok. You have to give him some slack when it comes to being original because of how much has already been done in the genre, but I still don't that it's all that original. It's an alright read, though.
It's funny about the movie though. While I was reading the first book I would note to myself any real bad plot twists the auther could have included(or did include), and it seems that whatever idiotic thing the auther had the brains not to do, the movie is going to do. Quote:
The book get's a little bit better, by the way. But just a little bit

Indeed, trying to find original material for fantesy is becoming scarce these days, it just makes you think, "if I was writing a fantesy book, what would I write that hasn't been done?" Your chances aren't good of finding much to write about.

Welcome to Entmoot, O Lord of the Mark! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
I think anyone can come up with something original if that's what they want, but I think in some ways Christopher Paalini wasn't looking to come up with some original as much as he was looking to emulate some of his favorite story tellers. If you ask me originality is something that, for some at least, will come with age as you begin to formulate your own ideas about who you are, which will shine through in your writing.

Thank you, Bran, I agree, I believe that originality comes with age, and that's what happens with Paolini's work, along with his writing style. It improves as the book progresses, as I'm sure you know.

I saw the trailer last week when I went to see the Guardian. I have to say It looked pretty neat. I've been hearing people talk about Eragon forever, I just haven't gotten around to reading the two books he has out now. The movie looks sweet, Of course anything that involves JI, swords and dragons is cool beans

I don't want to see it, some books should stay books.
If a film maker changed it at all it would end up real bad. The auther made it in just the right way so it isn't all bad but as a movie it would stink.

Does anyone know if they're filming Eragon and Eldest back-to-back? Because after seeing the trailer with that other dragon in there with all the aerial battles it looks like that should be Eldest, or maybe they're putting them together or something. Please enlighten me!
