Favorite Bad Guys (NEWBIE-FRIENDLY THREAD)
I thought that we had a favourite characters thread so why not have one about our favourite bad guys.
Mine is either Gollum or Saruman. Gollum because I love the conversations he has with himself and the way he talks. Saruman because he is the perfect fallen hero but you still get glances of his power and majesty. What do you guys think.

My favorite has to be third ring wraith to the left. That guy was super cool and I felt that he aslo had a gentler side. Im sure he loved hsi garen and in a way I felt bad that he would never see it again... (sniffle)

Favorite Bad Guy
It is difficult for me to choose one bad guy as a favorite. If he were more visible to the reader, I would choose Sauron. From the remaining characters, I will choose Sauruman (AKA Auruman ).

I agree with mithrand1r, 'Auruman was the best bad guy, not because of his personality, but more because of his hair-do. Nobody does thick and bushy hair like Sauruman (save maybe Sam the bushman, or Aragorn of the No-Pants, or good ol' melodramatic-milk-the-cow-while-you-talk Gandalf). I just wish 'Auruman could have had a nice conversation with Seleborn, and then we all would have had a good laugh. ... Or anyway those that know what the heck I'm talking about would.

I'm going to go with Melkor. Totally bad-ass. Yeah, I guess I didn't really like any others. I liked the good guys better (*warm and fuzzy feelings*).

Melkor/Morgoth is the only bad guy I recall to be afflicted with 'unnatural lust'.

I know this is probably not allowed as he was in the Hobbit(although Melkor was in Sil.) but I liked Smaug! How can you get a more interesting and charming villian!? He was a smart talking Dragon, if he lived through the Hobbit he may have been given his own sitcom, or his own gameshow at the least! Smaug is by far the best villian in my oppinion. He had the most depth with the fewest words! Although if I must choose a LotR baddy I would have to choose the Last of the Balrogs! If your bad enough to take down Gandalf, your cool in my books! The Balrog was rockin, and to think of it, he was one of the lesser Balrogs(if there were lesser Balrogs) and he was stilla pretty bad ass!

The Witch-King is wicked cool.
I don't think Gollum counts as a bad-guy guys, it's because of him that the Quest ultimately succeeded! At least, he was one factor in its sucess. No one in Tolkien is really black and white though. My favourite bad-guys are Smaug (because he is so evil, yet interesting, witty, and a great read), and Saruman, because he's a genius in most ways, and complex, dignified to the last, and exciting. It's also because of him that Merry and Pippin really came into their own. I tend to like bad guys based on two things - complexity and their effect on the heroes.
