Star Wars Languages
I was wondering if any hardcore SW fans from the moot speak any SW languages. For instance, my friend is fluent in Zulu and Swahili, so if he just speaks fast, he's also fluent in the Jawa toung (although he doesn't know what "zutini" means).
That and backwards Russian are the only two languages used that I'm familiar with. Does anybody know others any better?

Well it's both. The talking for the Jawas is actually people speaking in a mixture of Zulu and Swahili, and then sped up on recording.
I know that because I'm the coolest geek ever. Oh yeah.

actually, none of the languages in Star Wars were ever developed like JRRT's or Roddenberry's. So while "Oota Boota Solo" and some other phrases may sound fun, you can't really "speak" any of the star wars languages. bummer, huh? well, I'll just go back to my "beginning sindarin" and "conversational Klingon." I guess I'll never learn Rodian. bummer.
That's interesting about the jawas, though. Kind of like how Lucas took some WW2 plane footage and tweaked it to make the x-wing scenes.

I think Nariel is right, the most you're going to get is phrases and words, not a full language. |

I agree to that. I remember also that in A New Hope when the Jawa says "utini," he made a gesture that also seemed to mean come here.

Jabba isn't backwards Russian. In fact, the language he speaks ("Huttese") is pretty much the only well-developed Star Wars language there is. Sound editor (and now picture editor) Ben Burtt developed it way back when. It's not as rigorously fleshed-out as any of the Tolkien languages, of course, but it does consist of some reasonable consistency in terms of structure and some basic vocabulary. No, I don't speak it. I'm rather sceptical about these claims about fluency in Jawa, in that while it may be a composite of known languages, that doesn't necessarily make it a sensical one ("utinni!" being an immediate example).
