Excellent pic, thanks for thinking about me.

Do you know who did the tomb? It wasn't him, was it? I can't remember. What were some of the his works that you got to see while in Italy?

I think Michelangelos's tomb was designed by the man himself. I've propably seen those statues in a retrospective book or something...

Well either he did and this book is **** or he didn't and that is why it is not shown.

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing it was designed by someone else, because it was never mentioned in my art history books or classes. Up close, it does mimic Michelangelo's style, but the figures aren't quite as tense and dynamic as most of his stuff. I'll have to look into it.

I got to see lots of good stuff! David, the Laurentian Library, the Medici Chapel, the Sistine ceiling. I didn't get to see the Pieta at St Peter's in Rome, or the Rondanini Pieta though.

I saw Ghiberti's Baptistery Doors that Michelangelo called the "Gates of Paradise" -- they were awesome.

oooh, I'm so jealous! I want to see those! I'm in my first art history class right now and I can only imagine from looking at the pictures what the real things look like. *sigh*

Elanor, you should read The Agony and The Ecstasy (Irving stone)....if you haven't already.

Excellent story written from Mich's point of view. Begins when he is just a child and continues through his death. Very rich in art history....heck, history in general.
