O.K. I think we all agree that Arwen should not have been in the second movie(or at least I think so). It totally confused the heck out of me. But the part in the FOTR where she says "If you want him come and claim him!" was great (ok they might have been just a little corny). But I look at it this way they had very few women in there and the few they did have(Galdadreil, Arwen, Eowyn) had to sound a little tough or it would shame the female race. And give PJ a break he had very little to work with unless he took out a character or two. Besides Glorfindel was a minor character.

When Arwen first appears in FotR, moviegoers know next to nothing about elves. This makes her scenes necessary to show us about their language, grace, and power(the flood). Plus PJ needs to introduce her to us before she starts kissing Aragorn.
I thought Liv Tyler was great. Given some of her past roles (i.e. Inventing the Abbots, Armageddon) she wouldnt have been my first choice, but she has a quiet beauty that suits her role. In TTT, her part was needed to keep us informed on the Aragorn/Arwen situation as well as the plight of the elves. Plus Arwen was one of my favorite characters in the books so I was happy to see her with some screen time.

While I disagree eith Elvellyn about her part being needed in TTT I do agree that she did do Arwen justise and I was glad that she did get screen time.
