The fellowship fashions of today
I got an idea from a post my Pippin Skywalker.
How would the fellowship be dressed in today's fashion Merry and Pippin I see as grunge skate-boarder types Sam in overalls Gimli like a biker ( as in harely davidson) Frodo like a college professor Aragorn as strider in the last hiking appearal Boromir being wealthy and all tailor made euro-fashion Gandalf sherlock holmes but dressed in gray legolas ?

this is difficult, because if I try to picture the characters, I end up picturing the actors, and that's not good, because we've all seen interview with them when they're wearing normal-type cloths. Anyway, here goes.
I agree that: Gimli could blend well with a hell's angels-type crowd. Aragorn would shop at REI. Boromir in Italian designer clothing. Leather jacket. As for the rest: Sam as version of James Herriott (ie boots, pipe, tweed cap). (hey, relatively speaking, it's modern) Gandalf: well, if looking strictly at beard and hair (not any other aspect of the character), he reminds me of the Vietnam War vet. that begs on the corner in front of the mall by day, and then spends his day's collectings at the bar across the street. Legolas: for some odd reason, the Matrix is the only thing that comes to mind. Merry and Pip: warm-ups come to mind. I don't know why. Too bad their size puts them at a disadvantage for every sport, except maybe table tennis, or curling. Frodo:Environmental activist.

REI-recreational equipment incorporated. or something like that. . .basically lots of outdoor gear. that was your question, right? Yeah, I can really see Aragorn shopping there! Or rather, wearing stuff from there. I'd imagine Legolas in REI gear as well, but a different style than Aragorn. Maybe he'd shop at Patagonia. . .no, that would be Aragorn too. I can also see Legolas as Matrix-y, but maybe green instead of black-ouch. too bright.
Merry and Pippin curling! That's perfect! I can see them doing that. . .(not that I 've ever seen a game of curling. Missed my chance because of snow on Friday. But a bunch of my friends curl). Hmm...what sports would they all play? I'll have to think on that. . .Aragorn would definetely do mountain stuff, like rock climbing and whatnot.

I think the hobbits would play baseball in the spring/summer, and curling in the winter. Yeah, I am kinda stuck on Merry and Pippin curling. . .
I think Boromir would indeed be an all-around jock, but he would definitely have to play (American) football. I can really see that. . . (I've always said football is Medieval warfare, minus the weapons and horses. . .and high death rate) I agree, Afro-elf, with your Legolas sports, but he would also make a sport of climbing trees! (I do that!)

Legolas would be dressed:
no cap/hat; a green-grey jacket or shirt; green - grey trousers; long boots (also green-grey). That's all, what more does he need?

I see the balrog in flaming boxers. A female version would be wearing a bikini bottom and a halter top.
Don't ask.

Galadriel could be carrying a sign that says "Give peace a chance."
