Man, Eärniel, we should trade climates. Yesterday it felt like 105 degrees F over here. The wind itself was hot, not a refreshing breeze but like a hair dryer. I've never sweat so much.

Sounds inviting.
The climate isn't really the problem, well not yet anyway. It's the friggin' weather that doesn't want to act like summer as it should. Although today was better, much more like it is supposed to be. Of course it just happened to be hot the very day I promised mum I'd clean the house and cook. Sweating like crazy ensued. And by the time I was done, the sun was nowhere to be seen. Naturally.

3 parties in 1 week - and now tons of laundry and cleaning to catch up on!
(oldest son's bday party/sleepover, daughter's bday party/sleepover, and an open house/reception for some friends that are headed off to Papua New Guinea on Wednesday as missionaries to tribes that have requested them) And I still need to do some paperwork that I've been avoiding ... ugh!!! And I need to start some doctor's appointments going and track down a referral that we needed but never came through ... double ugh!!! And my middle son's hamster escaped, and the dog is licking his chops (actually, now we think she's alive because we saw some food moved ... I hope we can catch her before the dog does!)

Ah forms. There are some really jolly ones for student loans! Joy and fun.
Ri, you should keep your dog outside as much as possible, then do a thoughrough (sp?) search if you can. If you don't know what room she's in, search your house one room at a time, starting with the most likely one. Close the door and systematically search in every possible place a hamster might get. Then move on to the next room, leaving the door close. You might also try to tempt her out while you search the room with some treats. Chances are she hasn't gone far. She might not want to be too far from her home - hamsters like their nests. My hamster escaped once, and I found him snuggled under the leg of my overalls. Another time I thought he had gotten off my bed where I had let him run around, but he was actually nestled under my teddy bear. My brother's guinea pig escaped once and we had to move the couch to catch him again. Good luck!

Oie, much simpler way, Rian.
Just set out a few of those mouse traps and put some hampster food in them . Actually don't . I really, really hate mice and rats, but I saw this vidio of a mouse getting caught in one of those traps and it was really, really sad . |

The old-fashioned mouse traps snap back and can break the mouse's neck. That's a lot better than sticking to a little sticky tray and dying of starvation/dehydration.
But I really hope you find the hamster. You could try a little metal cage/trap. The kind that they walk in over a metal plate which then shuts the door. We finally found a good paint color...four quarts of paint later. The real stuff just does not match the chip! (my vent).

I made a thread on it, because it made me think a lot. Details are there, if you want to read them. Thanks for everyone's concern and help.

I suppose Tinkerbell is another hamster. This is good. We usually buy our guinea pigs in pairs, so they live together all their lives. In our experience, when one dies, the other usually dies shortly a few weeks later. I think this is despondency. The animal misses its friend very badly. So its having another animal friend is definitely a good thing. Hopefully they can learn to get along!
How old is Tinkerbell?

I think prob. only a few months old, but these hamsters are so tiny they usually only live 2 years, or 3 at the most. I got 2 more because if one more dies, we'll still have 2, and they're kind of hard to find. We had to drive 45 minutes to get them! They're called Robo dwarf hamsters (why, I have no idea! makes me think of RoboCop), and they don't tend to bite as much as the larger ones, and they're more social so you can keep more than one in a cage.
