As you can see, I don't hang out here muchly anymore. There's a good reason for this. Y'see, I've been hanging out at a different chatboard called Cardboardia. So far, I've been havin' a blast. Not that I don't love the TLA, but the magic of Entmoot is lost on me. So, as soon as TLA ends, so will my existance here, probably. Who knows though? I might stay. Highly unlikely however. This is a good bye in advance, then. Unless you want to join me and my group of friends at Cardboardia. Cheers! |

Actually, the eagle/horse are hippogriffs.
Hippo=horse. Griff=I don't know, I assume something to do with eagles.

IIRC, griffons (or gryphons, or gryffins, etc) were a cross between lions and eagles.

The Pegasus, definitely, for classical mythic beasts.
I like the brownie from Willow for movie incarnations (outside of LotR, of course). The Great Eagles are my favorite JRRT beasts.

What's the typical size of gryphons? On some feature films like Jim Henson's The Story Teller, they're the size of a small house. In the Hallmark Channel's "Merlin" mini-series, they're the size of regular eagles.
Just wondering... BTW, them Brownies from Willow are definitely real; except that the ones I know aren't that small enough to throw around.

I liked those brownies too!
I just watched Legend today so I'm for unicorns right now, but I also LOVE dragons (Smaug doesn't count cause' he was mean to the poor dwarves ), and hippogriffs. My fav LotR beastie is either Gwaihir and Co. or the Olog-hai.

The Griffin, The Unicorn and perhaps even the Serpent.
I believe there was a huge wolf (Fenrisulven) in Nordic Mythology. Last edited by Grey_Wolf : 07-13-2002 at 07:24 AM. |

Aaaaahhhhhh. Draco.......
I was under the immpresion that centaurs didn't count as beasts. They can speak, and at least in Harry Potter, they could read the stars. Doesn't that make them "people"?

Let's see 100% mythological and at least 50% beast... so, 75% "mythological beast"?
