i haven't read sophies world but i've read "solitaire mystery" (i liked it, one of my fave books), "christmas mystery" and "through the glass darkly". i'm currently reading "maya". also by the same author.
i like them, though, they are, i think written for young readers. but older people get to enjoy reading the books too. but i heard, "sophie's world" is so far the best among his works.

I loved Sophie's World! It can be boring if you're not really into philosophy, but I for one enjoyed it very much.
My favourite among Gaarder's books, though, is The Solitaire Mystery. Gotta love all the solitaire and joker analogies. And it was one of the most original things I've ever read. Other books from him are The Christmas Mystery; a story about a boy who meets an alien, which I don't know how it's called in English, but the Spanish title would translate to Is somebody there?; and Maya. That one is *amazing*- even better than Solitaire..., I dare say, even if the other one holds a special place in my heart. And the main character is a Biologist! Woohoo!

Strider sitting in the corner at the inn was a shock, and I had no more idea who he was than had Frodo. The Mines of Moria had been a mere name; and of Lothlórien no word had reached my mortal ears till I came there. Far away I knew there were the Horse-lords on the confines of an ancient Kingdom of Men, but Fangorn Forest was an unforeseen adventure." ~ J. R. R. Tolkien |

I'm a Norwegian, and Jostein Gaarder is a Norwegian author who is actually a success around the world (a rare phenomenon), but I've never read any of his books. Maybe I should. But jeez, there has been such fuss around that man ....

i hated this book so much, it was set for year eleven philosophy and we barely used it at all, i think our teacher ditched it for this years year 11 and brought in philosophy in the matrix we get the **** book while they get to study the Matrix
Studying articles is way more in depth and interesting than all those books like Sophie's World.
