Elf Girl is in the hospital

But she'll be fine. This is her mom speaking. What we thought was a stomach bug turned out to be viral meningitis, possibly a follow-on to Lyme disease (but we won't know about that 'til the test comes back.) She did do a lot of elfing around in the woods at her grandmother's house in late July. There being no deer ticks in ME, she was unprepared for the consequences.

So she asked me to post here and let the 'mooters know.

She should be out in a few days, and she was looking LOTS better after just an hour or two of IV fluids, which is what she really needs.

The ER doctor did figure out how to distract her pretty quick, though. As he was preparing his instruments of torture for the spinal tap, he said, "...but as someone who reads the trilogy, oh, every three or four years, I have to say the Two Towers was really an AWFUL movie...".

ehhh I've never had to be in the hospital or anything... Poor thing- hope she gets better! but at the same time I'm thankful that medicine is advanced enough to treat things like that.

I've become quite familiar with the emergency room, although I've never had an over-night stay. There's this one picture of a black-and-white animal in a field. We can't quite figure out what the animal is, since it looks a bit like a cow as well as a cat. Anyway, they always put my cot under it in that one hallway while we wait for a doctor or nurse to come.

Yes, that dr. had the perfect thing to say to make her feel a little more at ease! I am so sorry about the nasty illness (one of Melko's "creatures of blood", no doubt, trying to sabotage the experiment -- there's no escaping that!). I hope she has a quick recovery and a short stay.
