Elrond

I don't like elrond because he turned into a sort of father from 'eight simple rules for dateing my elf daughter!!!' Peter Jackson destroyed him and Arwen. In the same movie!!!

I don't think he was portrayed well, and yes, it does. Otherwise, how would BB be able to inform us that PJ's vision of ME is the only that matters?

EDIT: accidentally said don't think he was portrayed poorly, instead of don't think he was portrayed well. See title for more info.

Ok, sorry, i forgot that it would belong in the movie thread. I think that he was ok in the book though. They didn't do a great job on him in the movie

I wonder how they will do his last meeting with Arwen... If they did it like in the books, it would contradict the charecter PJ has given him.

well i dont know about that. I think all the elves (or at least all the elf leaders) sort of ooze this graceful sadness because of what is fated for them. I didnt see him as happy go lucky at all. plus hes an elf and all elves have a bit of high and mightyness to them. especially someone as old and learned as Elrond.

I don't think Elrond's feelings for Arwen and her relationship with Aragorn in the movie was ooc from the book, but they did spell it out too clearly imo. I would like it better if it had been done more subtle.

If you remember he told Aragorn he would not leave his daughter in Middle-Earth to die. I think he just wanted the best for her.

BTW, Hugo Weaving plays the part perfectly. AUSTRALIANS UNITE!!

I don't know if Hugo Weaving was perfect... maybe if he changed his voice slightly. The second time I saw FotR I kept thinking "The Matrix has you Frodo."

I would have prefered to be thinking about the matrix than what I was thinking about when I saw him in those purple roads! MITZI!!!!! All I could see was him in his drag outfits from Priscilla Queen of the desert. I did think he acted the part well though. Mx

I do not think that Jackson understood the concept that elves fenerally were most psysically (to both human and elf taste) beings in the world, and particularly that Galadriel was one of the 3 most beutiful person in the history of the world. Hugo weaving is a bit ruugh and craggy for Elrond and Blanchet is not one of the most beautiful actresses in our world. Haldir is a little odd looking in the face as well. (Bloom at least seems have have met great approval in this reagard). While beauty may seem of small note in the modern priority of things, it was a very important symbol in JRRT's literature and also was to be the main phsycial distinguishment between human and elf (rather than funny ears). In a visual medium like the big screen, I would have thought Jackson would have paid more attention to what visual motifs there were in the story.
