The Weirdstone Of Brisingamen

My Dad used to love the Weirdstone of Brisingamen when he was little so he bought it for me quite a few years ago. I really loved it and found it so magical that i read it time and time again. But then I dicovered Tolkien and now have the problem that when ever i try to read TWOB I find myself feeling homesick for Middle Earth! I wish I didn't coz I really love that book but you have to admit there are so many similarities between them: Wizards, dwarves, goblins, elves, a magical piece of jewellery, a dark lord and a black shadow! The list goes on and on ! Does anyone else feel the same way?

I had the same experience, and when I discovered Tolkien I felt it sort of completed the picture of all the fantasy books I'd read before, including the Weirdstone of Brisingamen. There are loads of similarities between LOTR and several books, but you just have to try and enjoy them as separate creations. Difficult I know

Has blown himself to pieces. Still the sea,
Consolingly disastrous, will return

Waits in the jewelled basin of a pool.

Imagine away!!!! When he took his shirt off- MIAOW! I was in seventh heaven, was a case of move over Orli! And that accent- *sigh* never thought I could fall in love with a Sheffield accent but combine it with Shakespeare and bam! Anyway back to the point of the thread- checked out a synopsis of your book online- sounds very, very good. Its first on my list to read now, even though I have a stack of books piled up in my room! Mx

You might get the same homesick feeling that i got. I found some more similarities: Entmoot-Svartmoot, Lady of the wood who gives gifts, Lady of the Lake who gives gifts, Svarts, Orcs, I'll stop there coz i don't wanna give away the story!

Of course anyone can join in! So long as you stick to the point of the thread- what was that exactly! Do wicked Grishnakh impressions! Go to elementary ballet! Or have an unhealthy obsession with Sean Bean! Mx

Feeling a little better but you know how it is! Will talk to you more about that on Monday when I can have a good cry. Will now go and bury my head in your fantastic book and lose myself in another world. Oh well TTT tomorrow night- will forget everything and focus on the lovely Legolas. Mx

You're mad!!! Think we scared Draken off too! I love your avatar btw- you'll have to come over and show me how to put one on myself, I want to put one on of either Jonny as Tugger or my one of Chris in Starlight! Didn't see TTT in the end, was sold out so I stayed at home like a saddo instead! Mx
