Arwen Undomiel Are Ents immortal?

Are ents immortal or do they just have really long lives?

I've never really thought about that before!

I have a book called A Guide To Tolkein and it describes the Ents as having "almost immortal lives"

then it goes on to say "...though Ents could not die in the manner of Men, through age, they became a dwindling race none the less. They were never numerous, and some were slain with steel and fire, and no new Entings came after the departure of the Entwives."

Elves could be slain, and could not die of old age, and they were imortal, so why arn't ents?

Not a tree, a tree-herder.

They can't die, but they can become "treeish" and simply stop talking and moving around. Treebeard explains this to Merry and Pip in TTT.

I think that they were very similar to elves in that they can be wounded or killed, but are not subject to disease. There is no Dutch Ent Disease.

Well in a way they are immortal because they have lived for such a long time, but the Ents are the last of their king becuase there are no girl ents.

Trees don't live forever, they have limited life spans as well.

...and this thread brings us to another question: where do the Ents go when they're slain? Aman?

I think they just rot into the ground like other tree's but I'm not sure.

Follow-up on Falagar's question: Are Ents spiritual creatures? I like to think they are, but if not, they would simply cease to excist when they're dead.

Elves seem to be much like elves-immortal but bound to Arda, and limited in their physical existance. They fade during the 4th age. See of Aule and Yvanna in the Silmarillion.

Also, Treebeard tlaks about the trees 'dying' on the inside, not actually dying as in not exsisting, but as in becoming dark and rotton, like the Old Forest. So, if Ents can become 'treeish' couldn't they also 'die' like other trees in ME could 'die'? I think so.

But trees can die, so once they become treeish they should be mortal

Well, several Ents died and were wounded at the Seige of Isengard. But their lifespans were not curtailed like mortals.
