Aragorn in TTT

I was waching a behind the seens prevew to TTT and it said something about Aragorn falling uncountess, and falling into a river. Did this ever happen? I can't remember it happening in the book, and that seems like something I would have rememberd!

Yup that happens alright.

Apparently, Aragorn somehow rides on the back of a Warg, then falls off a cliff into the river.

No, this doesn't happen in the book, like, I suspect, many things in the upcoming movie.

Big spoiler

He is rescued by Theodred's old horse Brego, who Aragorn sets free because he returns "wild" after Theodred is killed. Brego finds Aragorn when he is near death, and Aragorn rides him back, making a dramatic entrance because everyone thinks he is dead
I hope this spoiler thing works!

This is the part in the trailer where Aragorn pushes the doors open I suppose. Darn, I read too many spoilers, nothing is going to surprise me in the film now.

In a perfect world, none of us would be surprised because we've read the book. Like that's ever going to happen.

My wife won't let me tell her any spoilers. And although she read the books many times over the years, and re-read Silmarillion and The Hobbit, and Fellowship again, she won't re-read Two Towers until after the movie. So basically, I am not permitted to even talk about the upcoming movie! I can't even talk about the soundtrack, except she did let me say that a bonus track featuring music from the extended DVD is included in a special edition of the Two Towers soundtrack.

I think her attitude is based on the belief that she will enjoy the movies more if the non-book elements aren't fresh in her mind.

My attitude is that I want to get my disapointment at the non-book elements out of the way now so I can enjoy the movie in the theatre as a thing in itself.

I agree. Otherwise the whole experience might be ruined with
"oh my god, Treebeard didn't wear stockings!"
and such like. However, I do admire your wife's self-control. Especially after seeing the trailer on the big screen the other day, I'm a gibbering wreck and would sell my granny to a glue factory to get a glimpse of Grishnakh

Interesting that they're making more of
Aragorn's relationship with his horse, which was absent from the book. D'you think this is to replace the Gandalf/Shadowfax storyline?

So, back to Aragorn falling into the river...

Is this right? He is riding on a what- you- makal- it, and then he falls off? Why is he riding on that anyhow? Am I right that this never happend in the book?

I read the whole thing yesterday, while we were at Best Buy.
but just the horse part stuck with me. Aragorn gets in a feirce one-on-one battle with an orc (possibly grishnak) on a warg, goes over a cliff or something and everyone asumes he's dead. (he's unconscious). Gimli and the others coming back to the Rohan site report him as lost, Eowyn is greatly distressed, and then he reappears on Brego, able to save the day in battle. My memory is fading on it all, cause it's all so CRAZY!
I was looking at a picture companion to TTT. It was a small, thin book, lots of pix, and STICKERS! of all the characters in back. I couldn't believe I'd just read a child's version of the whole movie.

They missed out Gandalf taming Shadowfax from FOTR; if you recall, Shadowfax would let no-one get anywhere near him except G. Of course, it's a wonderful idea: maia riding mearas into battle, their friendship ("we will not be parted again") and Shadowfax's bravery: "who alone of the free horses could withstand" ..er.. the Witchking (can't remember the rest of the quote).

Just wondered if the plan was to retain this great theme by transferring it to Aragorn: "wild" Brego choosing to allow the King to ride him, etc.

From the trailer, though, it's obvious that G is riding Shadowfax, so maybe this'll be an easter egg in the film which they've kept under wraps.

cheers

d.

Well,
the wild noble horse only allowing the majestic man to ride him was certainly the idea I got, so you might be right. It could have been playing up Aragorn's kingly healer's sensitivity too. Brego comes back to the Rohan stables without Theodred, but he is "loco", unrideable. Aragorn orders him to be set free, so the fabulous horse saves his life, cool! Brego is a big velvet brown boy, should be great for the "horsey" folk, along with Shadowfax too!
Ahhh, brave valiant warriors riding great steeds into perilous battle, I can't wait! I hope the music is good!
