Chewbacca.......dead?
i read a thing about chewbacca in sw univers and he dies!!! (of corse long after the sw movies) he dies saving Anikan Solo (Han and Liea's yongest son). A planet was about to blow-up or something and chewie throws anikan in the falcon before it does. Han Doesn't have enough time to get chewie! isn't that heartbreaking. chewbacca is my fav person in the movies!

Chewbacca's death
Chewbacca certainly did die. In Star Wars New Jedi Order: Vector Prime , a Yuzzhan Vong dovin basal (read the series for details) pulls the moon of Sernpidal down into the planet. Chewie throws Anakin into the Falcon and Anakin then pilots the Falcon to try and rescue Chewie but there isn't enough time, and Anakin has to turn toward space and escape.
The moon falls on Chewie. That's pretty conclusive. They decided to kill off Chewie for two reasons. 1)The Star Wars books hadn't been doing a good enough job of giving a sense of danger, and in starting the New Jedi Order series, they needed to show that the Yuzzhan Vong were a real threat. 2)Chewie was an expendable character. Any part that Chewie has can in a book (any book) can be replaced by another character with ease. |

Chewbacca's death: Is Luke Skywalker next?
If you've been following the SW:NJO series, you know that Luke and Mara have a son, Ben.
I think this means Luke is now expendable as well: the line of Skywalkers is continued through Ben as well as Jacen/Jaina/Anakin. Look for Luke to sacrifice himself heroically in an upcoming NJO book. I really think its possible. In case it comes true, you should know that I have only read up to SW:NJO:Edge of Victory II:Rebirth; I haven't seen any spoilers or anything. |

Chewie isn't expendable
Chewie is not expendable. He's one of the best characters in Star Wars. I don't understand how they decided that killing off a main character was a good idea.

Chewbacca's death: why?
Well, it's pretty easy to see why Chewbacca.
What are his main roles in the books?
So, who can replace all of these roles? Enter the Noghri. Exit Chewbacca. Last edited by Beleg Strongbow : 04-12-2002 at 12:10 PM. |

Noghri better than Chewie?
I still think Chewie is irreplacable. The Noghri are nothing compared to him.

The Noghri are way better than Chewie.
Chewbacca

big pile of hair
adorable roar
mechanic skills
Noghri

lots of pile of hair
adorable battle cries
combat skills
Noghri v Wookies
No way! Noghri are small, anoying, and stupid enough to be tricked by the Empire. The Wookies are so much better. Besides, the Noghri were introduced later, in the books. They weren't even Lucas' idea.

Noghri v Chewbacca
The Noghri may have been tricked by the Empire but Chewbacca would still be an Imperial slave if not for Han Solo.
The Noghri are way better at combat than anyone in Lucas's books except for Jedi. In Specter of the Past a Noghri silently kills nine blaster-totin' assasins with no help except Luke standing and watching.

Standing and watching?? If it weren't for Luke, the Noghri would have been blown to smithereens by a bomb. Seriously, the Noghri are nothing comared to the wookies.

Noghri v Chewbacca
Are the Noghri better than Chewie?
Does it really matter? You have to admit that if a main character had to be killed, Chewie was the logical choice.

Noghri v CHewbacca
I have started a new thread for debating whether the Noghri are better than Chewbacca.
We can use this thread to discuss "Chewbacca.......dead?", whatever that means.
