Not all Elves had blonde hair and blue eyes. Hello. Remember Elrond? Brown hair? And who says Elves can't pig out if they want

![]() i know elrond and arwen had dark complexions, but wasn't that because Luthien, who they had descended from, was 'famous' for her dark complexion?
i didn't think that GG had descended from Luthein and beren, so.. i didn't mention it. i guess (once more) my mental image was shattered by peter jackson

But isn't Gil-galad described as "fair"? or the "fairest king" or something like that?
To me that means pretty and,..well...fair, as in light coloured skin, hair, eyes. Oh well, it can mean many things. |

"Gil-galad was an Elven-king.
Of him the harpers sadly sing: the last whose realm was fair and free between the Mountains and the Sea. His sword was long, his lance was keen, his shining helm afar was seen; the countless stars of heaven's field were mirrored in his silver shield. But long ago he rode away, and where he dwelleth none can say; for into darkness fell his star in Mordor where the shadows are." Not even in his own lay do they give a description of him! No, I don't think they ever said he was "fair". Last edited by Rána Eressëa : 02-03-2002 at 04:55 PM. |

Whatever . . . just another Elf.
![]() Seriously, I don't think it says anywhere that Elves can't be brown haired/eyed, and since Gil Galad isn't described, it's open to interpretation. For that matter, I thought Isildur was a little chubby too . . . doesn't make much sense for a guy who's supposed to have been fighting constantly. ![]()

Isildur was buff.
Actually, in the four times I've seen the film, I haven't yet caught who was supposed to be Gil-galad...

I read somewhere that wood elves had black hair, so some people thought that Legolas had black hair.
I thought that Gil-Galad was the dark haired one at the begining of the movie and he didn't look fat to me. (Cirdan was the white haired one right?)

I didn't catch Gil-Galad in the movie, but I always thought the all elves were good looking. Didn't one group of elves have blonde hair? The name has escaped me and I don't have any books handy.

a. He didn't look fat to me, he looked like he works out a lot
b. It took me about 5 viewings to finally see him c. As I recall, only about a third of the elves had blonde hair d. Also as I recall, they mostly had grey eyes e. I've heard people say both...dark hair or light, but whatever, we don't have a descriptions (as with many of the characters) so I guess we don't get to know. Same with Legolas, but I figure since his father had 'golden' hair, he would too.

Gil-Galads in the first War scene? Funny I've seen the movie eight times and I never saw him. I did see a woman though twice so hey I guess that counts for something.
![]() No Isildur's NOT tubby, neither is Elrond. It's SAURON who needs a diet. FrodoFriend pointed this out in one of her hilariously outrageously popular posts, that Sauron looks TUBBY. When he's looking at the Ring and holding it up, I have a hard time controlling my laughing and snorting. I usually thought of Gil-Galad as having Black hair with Green-Golden eyes. Funny I can never seen the characters faces like the mouth and stuff but the eyes and hair ALWAYS imprint when I think about it. Weird. Sam

It took me a while to spot him, as I've said, and only after I'd seen pictures. Well, I'd seen him, I just didn't recongnize him as Gil-Galad. Anyway, I had to point him out to my friends.

I could never catch Gil-Galad in the battle scene; only in the "family shot" with Cirdan and Galadriel when she narrates "...3 were given to the elves.."

There's about three seconds of him in the battle, he has a spear and he's stabbing an orc or something, which is lying on the ground. But it's really fast. I think there's one other shot of him but I don't remember.
