Kids say the darnedest things

*not to sure of my 'darnedest' spelling*

At any rate, I was babysitting my 3yr old niece this past week. Wed. she wanted to got to McDonald's for lunch. So, there we are in a long line patiently waiting for chicken nuggets when she decides to make a public service anouncement. First I should set the scene...she lets go of my hand, puts her hands on her hips and uses her most I've-had-it-up-to-here-with-you voice to say "Aunt Sarah, if you don't wipe your butt really good it will be sore!" At this point the whole restaurant turns and looks at the 7 shades of red my face has turned. I tried to change the subject to her favorite movie, The Wizard of Oz, to which she replied "Dorothy has to wipe her butt good too!"

*sigh* So, do any of you have gems like these to share?

Wow. After asking all those doctors, I finally find out that a 3 year old knew the answer to my problem!

What's really funny is that's not the only time she's done something like that...just the most recent! I can't wait 'till her first boyfriend comes along

well....we're not really sure. she's a little too smart for her age - she's reading already!- so she may have duped us all into believing she's sweet... whatever the case may be, next time we're out in public I'm not going to let her little mind wander for too long!

She's got one of those magna-doodle boards and we write words on it for her to read and then copy. Her motor skills are normal, however so writing will have to wait 'till 4
A certain amount of memorizing is involved as with all new readers, but she's starting to 'sound out' unknown words.
This all started when she saw and read aloud "pick up milk and eggs" on the dry erase board on her parent's fridge.
Go figure

Hey Lyrian, where'd you get those winking smilies? They are so awesome!

Well, I could read when I was 3, and I now make all A's and have won the spelling bee for 4 years running (not to brag, pleeese don't take it that way!), so she should turn out good too! Make sure she watches Sesame Street twice a day, that's what helped me learn to read. Also make sure she understands the words she's reading - when I was 4 my parents took me to this lady to see how well I could read, and the lady said I was a "word caller" - I could say the words but I didn't know what I was reading.

When my sister was young (before my existance...she's getting married next year ::sniff:: ) she proudly announced to my grandmother that she could spell 'garbage' while they were eating at McDonald's. My grandmother asked her how to spell it, and my sister replied "P-U-S-H"...huh...at least she could say teh letters right (she was reciting what was on the trash can flippy thingy)

And when I was about two, I took my fork and pointed it at all of my family, saying 'you' each time. Then I pointed to myself and said 'you' as well. Not as funny.

And once again, with my grandmother, I was sitting on her lap and talking, and she kept saying how grown up I was getting. I looked straight at her and said "Nuh-uh Grannma, when I'm growed up, you'll be dead!" How awful!
