Today at 8:00 pm starts the opening ceremonies of the XXVII Olympics ! We can all gather here..grab drinks and snacks..watch and party!

2. Star Wars Episode 2 has had part of it's filming there and Fox has movie studios there.

Wow! What an opening ceremony! Can you imagine what it must have been like for that little girl, flying over the crowds? All those numbers were incredible, I like the aboriginie guy, he was just cool, and the horse riders and fire breathers were awesome!!!

i only tuned in for the torch-lighting - but what a great idea! fire... water... that was really cool! i wanted to see how they'd outdo the torii they built for the Nagano games - the waterfall/climbing fire was truly awesome.

Yeah, that was really cool. I wanted to stay up to see Uzbekistan, but i was tired and only saw up to about "D"
I checked out the olypic webpage to see how Uzbekistanian athletes ranked. The best we have is ranking 6th in one of the women's swimming events. Oh well. I can still cheer against good ol canada.

BTW, Thrawn. CBC has way better Olympic coverage than NBC. We actually get to see live events!!! NBC is showing everything on tpae-delay...

I missed the opening ceremony . Mostly, I've been watching the soccer games and some other sports as well. I am mostly interested in the Athletes. When they start I'll be spending a lot more time in front of the TV.

That was so awesome, the fire rising up around her from the water.

I know there are already some metals won but I'm waiting for the primetime version to find out about em.

USA Women won in Volleyball last night against China!Yipeee!!
And Aussie got a silver member in Trialothon!

A few days ago I saw some of the opening ceremony on EuroNews. That fire thing was really impressive.

So far I haven't seen any truly good performances by the Swedes. I just hope it will come soon.

all i've been watching is swimming & gymnastics - but i did see a USA vs. Canada beach volleyball game - but i can't remember who won. well, whichever side it was Entmooters will be happy.

swimming -
records were dropping like flies, esp. in the race heats! yikes! a lot of americans, aussies & a few italians won medals - congrats to them!

gymnastics -
i'm beginning to wonder if that venue is cursed, with the amount of falls & injuries in the last 2 days. the american women just aren't doing that well. Russian women were doing really great (as if that's surprising...) as of the qualifiers last night, & tonight China, Ukraine & Russian men won gold, silver & bronze respectively. the Chinese women looked good too; so did Amy Chow (american) but she's been great every time i've seen her perform. i really do feel sorry for the Australian women, though - the US media makes them out to be starlets, but then plays up all their flaws as if they're failures.

PS - thrawn96, are the Uzbekistani (?) at the Olympics? didn't see them in the parade...

Re: gym... They were saying the floor at the events was different than the floor in the training gym, so that's why we're seeing lots of mistakes on floor ex. You can also blame NBC for showing everyone who wipes out at the expense of good performances... Not just NBC BTW, CBC has been guilty of this too...
