I like dragons. They're pretty cool. I used to do a lot of drawings of them.
Note: This should probably go in the General Messages forum because it will probably stray off the topic of dragons from LotR.

I must admit I've always had a sneaky soft spot for Smaug, he inspired in me a long term love of dragons in any shape or size.
My house is now full of dragon statues and is even called 'Hafod-y-ddraig', which is House of Dragons in welsh. |

Sean Connery as the dragon was magnificent.
Chinese culture revears the dragon. It is powerful as a guardian etc. Even buildings are modified to allow the dragon spirit of a mountain to pass through easily; i.e. in Hong Kong. It's not only spiritual but part of Feng Shui (the spelling varies).

I got to play Smaug in a production of the Hobbit. One of the funnest (and I KNOW that's not a word) scenes I've ever done. Okay, well, there were eight of us girls doing it. And it was fantasmo. Yes. It was. So. Smaug be very cool, dragons also, I love them.

I have to agree with Tano. Playing Smaug was extremely fun. Actually, we were playing Smaug as Smaugette. It was most amusing.

Dragonheart was a cool movie. I also love Anne McCaffrey's version of the dragon.

I thought Richard Boone's voice was perfect for Smaug in the animated Hobbit. Raspy and mencacing. "My armour is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath… death!"
I love that line. Smaug was one of those villans you fear but can't bring yourself to hate. I guess it's because there is no deceit, no treachery in a dragon's heart. You know what he's about. Smaug was a collector of gold and trinkets, and if he wanted yours, (or if you wanted his) he would set out to kill you.

I don't know, in the Hobbit, Smaug seemed kind of smelly and over-confident.

When you're the size of a 18-wheeler and can breathe fire, you tend to be pretty confident in yourself.

one of the reasons smaug is so cool to me is because he's so overconfident. he reminds me of someone i can't place...anyway i like how he's so honest, whether it be i'm-taking-your-treasure-just-try-and-stop-me or i-am-so-all-that even though bard did kill him. but hey look at the score. he did a lot of damage himself. not that that was cool...just smaug.
