Casting Call!
With RotK now out, the only filmable novel left is The Hobbit. Both Peter Jackson and Sir Ian McKellen have expressed getting back together to work on the film.
My dream cast: Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey Colin Firth as Bilbo Baggins (Ian Holm's a bit too old for young Bilbo-- whereas Colin Firth is middle-aged, paunchy, and has curly hair-- he's a hobbit already!) Sean Connery as Thorin Oakenshield Robbie Coltrane as Beorn (in his Hagrid makeup) Russell Crowe as Bard (he refused Aragorn-- now he can play another heir-in-exile) Andy Serkis as Gollum Hugo Weaving as Elrond Alan Rickman as Thranduil (can be both noble and menacing-- and he can pass as Orlando Bloom's father) James Earl Jones as Smaug Special Apperances by: In Rivendell Liv Tyler as Arwen Undomiel (I know she's supposed in Lothlorien at the time, but hey, it's a PJ movie) Haley Joel Osment as Estel At The Battle of the Five Armies Orlando Bloom as Legolas John Rhys-Davies as Gimli (he could've been with Dain's army coming in to reinforce Thorin's position) Any other suggestions? |

strange
i have no suggestions on the cast but i think PJ should have done The Hobbit before he did LOTR.
But i have to say, COLIN FIRTH AS BILBO??????????? OMG! Are you serious? That would just.....oh i cant even think about it. I can't really imagin colin firth trotting down a cave to Smaug can you? He always seemed a bit too....posh for a character like Bilbo. You know, his accent and stuff. Ian holm could still do Bilbo. I dont think he's too old. Plus, if you saw LOTR you would notice the talent of the makeup guys. I mean, they did elves and dwarves...the list goes on. My point being that even if he is old, he could still be done up young. Hehehe...

I have no problem with Colin Firth's "posh" accent. Remember that Bilbo was something of an aristocrat, the Bagginses being a rather well-to-do family.

but...
that's true but i don't think the baggins were posh.
Also, i just can't see Colin Firth killing huge spiders, singing with elves, spying on trolls or having dinner with dwarves. I just can't see it. I think that Ian Holm would still be great as Bilbo despite his age. I agree with the rest of your choices except for Thorin. I mean, Sean Connery is a Bond Man. You know how in the first movie, when they see all the races approaching Rivendell? Well you know that dwarf who's walking with Gimli? I think he'd be great. Anyhoo, no further objections.

If it happens, I'd like to see Ian Holm as Bilbo again. They could certainly pull it off makeup-wise.
I'm not sure about Sean Connery as Thorin. He definitely has the stately, brash, regal thing going, but I can't quite see him as a dwarf. I can't come up with a better suggestion, though...

Plus Sir Sean ably fulfills the unwritten rule that all dwarves must have Scottish accents.
Oh, and I just thought of Mike Myers supplying the voices of Tom, Bert, and William Huggins. And in his "Fat Bastard" suit, he could play Bombur too. |

You've obviously got a number of dwarf roles to fill. So why not:
Thorin Oakenshield---Danny DeVito (a dwarf with an attitude) Bombur---Of course, Mike Myers Gimli---John Rhys-Davies Dori---Dominic Monaghan Nori---Billy Boyd Tom, Bert, William---(via cgi, The Three Stooges)

danny devito are you serious. hes a joke. he couldnt be a good actor even if he tried.
Beorn i see as someone wiv muscles like conan but old Arnie is a bit old i dunno? For the dwarves i fink it would be a good chance for some unknown actors to get some fame. Ian holm as bilbo is good.

There are a lot of those names that don't cry 'middle earth' to me. Some of them are downright silly, I think.

Re: Casting Call!
Elrond is in the Hobbit?
I think Sir Ian McKellan should be Gandalf again, as well as Andy Serkis as Gollum and Sir Ian Holm as Bilbo (it could totally work.) Continuity here people. I don't think Russel Crowe should be Bard. I think, as someone already mentioned, we should give unknown actors a chance as much as possible.

i agree with robbie coltrane as beorn and ian holm could play bilbo i mean they have makeup that can easily make him younger. definetly not billy or dom as dwarves it would clash badly with the other movies and PJ just shouldnt bother with the hobbit

Tuor of Gondolin - Gimli's not in "The Hobbit," but I suppose John Rhys-Davies could play Gloin.

i agree about the "Bard = Russel Crowe" bit. LOTR gave practically unknown actors a chance so the Hobbit should too. But if PJ does it, then he definitely will.
Hey, just out of curiosity, does anyone know that song...."Blister in the sun?" "When i walk i strut my stuff and im so strung out...I'm high as a kite and i might try and check you out...." sound familair?

Yeah, isn't that my the Violent Femmes? Why?
I like Cid from FInal Fantasy VII as Bilbo. I guess I'm pretty much out of the loop as far as actual actors goes. I don't know any... |

Actually, it DOES seem to be a bit of a stretch. Other people I've since thought of as Thranduil include Jeremy Irons and Daniel Day-Lewis.
Gimli isn't mentioned in the book. But he plausibly could have joined up with Dain's army from the Iron Hills, hoping to save his father. In the same way, I'm also hoping for a cameo for Orlando Bloom as Legolas in the movie. Imagine a scene like this: Thranduil and Bard reveal the Arkenstone of Thror as their bargaining chip. Gimli advances towards them Gimli: I'll be dead before I see the Arkenstone in the hands of an Elf! Legolas stands in front of Thranduil, nocks an arrow, draws, and aims: Legolas: You would die before your stroke fell! And yes, Haley Joel Osment doesn't really fit. But he's the first thing that came to mind when I thought "creepily precocious ten-year-old." I think Viggo DOES have a son that's about the right age. It would be really cool if he played Estel in Rivendell. |

Finally got his name: Henry Mortensen. He also played one of the Rohirrim youths pressed into service at Helm's Deep in The Two Towers . Perfectly suited for Estel.
