Favorite moment or chapter?

Mine is "The King of the Golden Hall"...it is so cool how Gandalf(showing his true power!) "awakens" Theoden and puts Grima Wormtongue in his place!

It would have to be "Three is Company" (FOTR) I love it when Frodo and the guys meet Gildor. It is funny. I also like the entire conversation between Gildor and Frodo, It is the first time the reader is really exposed to the High Elves. I found Gildor to be a very wise person in his answers to Frodo's questions.

Yes! That is also, cool! Sam's reaction to his first encounter with Elves is "priceless"!

How about Frodo's reaction in A Conspiracy Unmasked? Now that is funny.

One of my favorite chapters is The Grey Havens. It really is quite moving when Frodo leaves Sam, Merry and Pippin, but I always liked how it ended with them singing as they got closer to the shire.

mine is helm's deep... it just makes me chuckle when legolas and gimli are keeping count of how many orcs they killed and seeing who could kill the most.

Hmmm

It's impossible for me to say.It may seem demented and sick but I like all the scenes in Mordor, from Shelobs Lair to Mount Doom, because it shows the love and friendship Sam and his master have. So so touching. I love the scene Frodo makes in Bree, and the bath scene is soooo funny, the scene at Isengard is cute and funny, and I LOVE the part where Sam watches Frodo as he sleeps in Ithillien and then the argument he and Gollum had over the rabbit. He he he he he
Sam

Mine is the Siege of Gondor and the Battle of Pelennor Fields. I can't wait to see what the majesty translates to in the movie. Ahem, I can wait till 2003, I suppose.

I also liked the Lothlorien and Council of Elrond chapters.

Mine is without a doubt the moment where Gandalf tells the Witch King to shove off *g*.

Other from that I utterly enjoyed the fight with the Balrog, and of course the Battle in the Helms deep.

I always loved the part when Gandalf, Aragorn, Gimli, And Leagols were going into the Golden Hall for the first time, the door warden wanted them to lay down their weapons and Aragorn won't lay his down. The door warden threatened im by saying something to the effect of(not a direct quote), "Lay it aside unless you would fight all the men in Rohan. " Then Gimli replied, "Not alone!" That's great stuff!

The very end of the Lothlórien chapter is in my opinion the most beautiful part that Tolkien has written

"Here is the heart of Elvendom ," he said, "and here my heart dwells ever, unless there be a light beyond the dark roads that we still must tread, you and I. Come with me!" And taking Frodo's hand in his he left the hill of Cerin Amroth and came there never again as living man.

Just stunnigly beautiful.

CONTAINS SPOILERS (just thought you would like to know before I ruin LotRs for you)

"... Presently he became aware that Frodo was singing softly to himself, singing the old walking song but the words were not quite the same.

Still around the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate
And though I oft have passed them by,
A day will come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run
West of the Moon, East of the Sun.

And as if in answer, from down below, coming up the road out of the valley, voices sang:

A! Elbereth Gilthoniel!
silivren penna miriel
o menel aglar elenath,
Gilthoniel, A! Elbereth!
We still remember, we who dwell
In this far land beneath the trees
The starlight on the Western Seas.

Frodo and Sam halted and sat silent in the soft shadows, until they saw a shimmer as the travellers came towards them..."

Will this suffice?

One of my many favorite parts would have to be the barrow-down scene. It's just so interesting to read, because I tend to build up anxiety and fright as Merry, Sam, Pippin, and finally, Frodo are caputured. While the barrow-wight comes into the room, my eyes are just about glued to the page. And when Frodo shouts for help, I nearly fall off my seat...it's like I'm really there watching. And then, of course, the tidal wave of happiness and relief as Tom Bombadil drives off the wight

I just love these books!

I like the choices of master Samwise because it makes me cry, and for the same reason i like the battle where pippin nearly dies. I like the grey havens and the scouring of the shire and basically all of the hobbit bits and gollum bits. They make me laugh and cry...i like hobbits.
