Trivia
(continuation of this thread here)
Ok this is a trivia thread, you may only post a question once you have answered the previous question correctly, answers too all the questions must be found in the hobbit. Heres one: How many times were Smoke rings blown in The Hobbit?

4 times
When Gandalf first talked to Bilbo
During the Unexpected Party In the cave, just before the goblins got them In Beorn's house (at the end, Bilbo hands Gandalf the tobbaco, but it doesn't say that he actually blew smoke rings) So it's 4 times.

The Longbeards, in that their Father was the first to awaken.
Who were the Dwarves in the Company most skilled in making fire?

Okay!
Sorry to take so long...I don't usually have any chances to get online over the weekends, and it was actually my brother who posted my answer for me. So, anyway, How many and what kind of animals (and insects) that Beorn kept were mentioned in the book? |

Lions and tigers and Beorns! Oh My!
There were five.
First bees (big as hornets), then horses (with very intellegent faces), then ponies (beautiful white ones), then dogs (large, long-bodied ones), then at last sheep (snow white ones lead by a coal black ram). I do not count the bears at the bears' meeting, because they were not "animals ... that Beorn kept." But if you wanted to that would make the total six. Now my question. When is the last time that Bilbo wishes for his hobbit hole? Bonus question: When is the last time Tolkien adds "Not for the last time!" after Bilbo's wish for his hobbit hole? |

Hmmm. Was the last time after the Battle of Five Armies, before he actually did set off for home?
And as for the bonus question, ... some time in Thranduil's halls?

Bombcar, I hate to disappoint you, but you didn't quite get the answer right.
I counted five also, but that's because I counted horses and ponies as being basically the same thing. So, I guess the answer is either five or six, (depending on your view of ponies and horses); and there is one more type of animal that Beorn kept besides those you listed. And, yes, I didn't count the bears, either. Your questions are intriguing, though. I'll have to do some looking through my copy of The Hobbit. :-) It might be a good idea for all of us to start waiting for confirmation from the trivia-question-poster before posting our own question. Although, of course, when you're dealing with people (like me) who can't get online every day it does slow everything down for everybody else. Just a thought... |

Looks like it's time for a pep-talk...
Come on, y'all! You're a bunch of smart people! (You're all Tolkien readers, after all.) I know you can do it!!
Bomcar, you're sooo close! I'm going to give y'all the benefit of the doubt since it's been Labor Day weekend, but's it's over a week now since I posted my trivia question. I guess I'll have to start posting clues if someone doesn't get it within a couple days. So, worthy Tolkien lovers, grab your copy of the Hobbit and have at it!! Prove me wrong in thinking that I'll have to resort to clues! *cheers and a rousing Sousa march* |

Great a pep talker, why don't you go talk about the wonderfulness of school down in the General Messages forum . I can't answer because I can't open up my copy of the Hobbit and everything I type is by memory. The same probably applies to others, or they're all on vacation (I wish I was).

Goodness, WebWizard, I was acting goofy, couldn't you tell? Maybe I'm just not good enough at getting my mood across in writing. And y'all don't know me very well yet, either. So, fyi, I'm usually a very serious person, and that's a pretty silly post for me. No need to get all huffy, and I didn't mean to offend anyone...
