Will Cloned Humans Be Sentinent?
A baby's first impression is usually it's mother and then it goes on from there gathering impressions as it grows up and begin to speak and so on...
But clones "grow" up in "growing" beds so they won't have that opportunity. Or will they have their impressions imprinted on their minds? What's your opinion? |

I'm rather confusesd by the assumptions you make...what do you mean by "cloning beds?"
Clones are born in the regular way after being implanted in surrogate mothers. Of course they will be sentient - your first impression has nothing to do with cognitive power. It is true that you are, indeed, shaped by the circumstances of your first years, but I don't understand where you are coming up with the idea that somehow babies will be raised in, if I may, "baby-farms." From all I have heard in the news and on the radio, if humans are cloned, it will be mainly for parents that have trouble having children, and their "mother" will give birth to them, and raise them like any other child... Your assumptions sound rather as if they come from a science fiction novel...where have you heard such things?

Well, I guess it has a sort of Sci fi sound to it. But what's to stop mad dictators or generals from doing it the factory way.

The same thing that is stopping them from doing it with artificial insemination - the fact that they still need the mothers.
Cloning does not remove the women from the procedure - they are needed just as much as with a traditional birth. In my mind, it is just another version of artificial insemination, but one that would work if the mother or the father is sterile. In addition, large scale human cloning would be very expensive, and very impractical. It took thousands of tries to even get Dolly, and then she had severe health problems...I don't think you have anything to worry about any time soon.

Grey Wolf - a really good book on what you are talking about (SciFi) is Cyteen(contains first 26 pages to read). I've mentioned it in several other threads where the subject of cloning comes up and it brings up a lot of issues. It's about a political leader/scientist who is murdered and then she is cloned and raised to try completely duplicate her upbringing so she can replace her former self and be the "same person" and continue on "her life".
By the way - in Cyteen - they're called "womb tanks".
