Why was lotr the perfect book to turn into a movie? hmmmm?
OK, so i am doing this research paper and i am trying to figure out why lotr was the perfect book to turn into a movie. I guess maybe because since the times are so advanced that maybe they realized that the 3-d effects would make it the perfect time to make a movie out of a so complex theme. Write me back and give me your opinions! Thanks alot guys!

A lot of books don't survive the hack-and-slash fest that is the task of translating a book into a screenplay. LotR made it with luck and persevearance. Most don't fare so well. |

You might write a sarcastic work with the same title.
I would like to say, in the movies' defense (I HATE doing this) that they were box-office smashes. Most people would say that this make them 'good movies'. If this defines a 'perfect movie', then the reason the books make one is probably because it is set in a different world, therefore providing the audience with real escape from everyday life; it has lots of weird creatures in it to disgust and fascinate the audience with; it starred some guys which a LOT of women find attractive and a lot of guys find cool; it had neato green-goo dead guys; little cute people running around making things happen; and a really freaky-but-oh-so-cool frog-like thing with fangs and big eyes who eats raw fish and spits a lot. So there's some reasons.

I agree with Rosie. If you look at them as just movies, standing alone from the books they were good films, however in answer to the question I'd have to say no, they were not the perfect films to make. Some of the plot lines were to subtle to be adapted onto screen.

Success at the box office doesn't necessarily mean a movie was great, and it definitely doesn't mean that it was a good book adaptation.
I'm going to have to be contrary here too and say that Lord of the Rings is far too complex of a novel to be adapted to the big screen. I thought The Princess Bride and The Mists of Avalon (though the latter did skim here and there, as you do) were both great book adaptations.

I thought it was 'because the story was hugely popular and had enough fans that would see the movie regardless of how good it was, and that was enough to ensure a great showing at the box office'.
