Concerning maps...
I have always loved maps. I am especially fond of the maps included with LOTR. I know different editions have different maps in them. There's the one by Shelly Shaperio (correct me if I'm wrong) and the one by C.J.R.T. (Christopher, right?) Does anyone have maps by different people?

Re: Concerning maps...
Thanks guys . As you may have read in the thread in General Messages, I'm planning to do a "Middle earth" theme for my website. Each area from Middle Earth will correspond to an area in my site (for example, Fangorn Forest would be this board, and the Shire could be games). My plan is to use a map as the "navigation area," so they would click on Fangorn Forest on the map from my site to get to the bulletin board, etc. But I need a map to do this. Many wonderful maps just have too much detail on them. I would prefer a totally blank map of Middle Earth for me to write only the places I have areas for. I found a wonderful 3d model map, and I'm e-mailing the guy to see if I can use it. If not, I'll go with one of the maps on the sites listed in this thread .

Re: Concerning maps...
I'm leaning towards using this map: <img src=http://www.mi.uib.no/~respl/tolkien/tpic/large/me-clds.jpg> What do you think? There isn't too much writing on it, so I could customize it. I e-mailed the guy asking if he still had a version without the writing, so I could completely re-do it. Anyone know of any other maps like this? (Of course, if I did use it for my site, I'd have to resize it...)

Re: Concerning maps...
I like ...., but maybe just a little bit more detail. It is hard to distinguish the forests and the rivers. The clouds are a little distracting. But other than that, I really do like it. I think it is a great idea for site navigation!!

Re: Concerning maps...
If you love maps just like I do you should consider buying a wonderful book by Karen Wynn Fonstad: The Atlas of Middle-Earth, Harper-Collins This is 200 pages of well researched detailed maps, cities, buildings, battles, descriptions and more! Here you can find some examples: <A HREF=http://sauron.unh.edu/pages/tolkien/atlas.html >http://sauron.unh.edu/pages/tolkien/atlas.html </A> and more maps on the same site: <A HREF=http://sauron.unh.edu/pages/tolkien/maps.html >http://sauron.unh.edu/pages/tolkien/maps.html </A>

Just out of curiosity Snowdog, why do you keep digging up ancient discussions?
Not that it's bad, the old threads are often the best. Some maps of Rivindell at http://www.imladris.nu/riv_maps.html

Ah, I see. And now for my second question: why do you always write in red? (Not that that's a bad thing either )

Yes, that's an interesting question. Sometimes it bothers me to read your posts with this color.

Well, I don't always post in dark red. Sometimes I use firebrick and also dark blue. If there was something "wrong" with doing it, it wouldn't be a feature of this board. Why do I use the colors? Because I like the board gadgets? To be different? Because its fun!
Back to maps... There is a good one here!

Those maps are nice, but I agree with Radagast. The ones in the book are better.

Yes I agree, because J.R.R. Tolkien drew them up and so they are the best. I have a red & black high resolution scan of the foldout original maps from the hardback books.
