By the way, I think that it isn't up to society to see the good side to things. It is up to the individual since in my view society is quite shapeless on it's own.

Just got a shiny new phone for free - really cool shade of plummy purple, and has bigger fonts for my poor aging eyes! I finally decided to use some unique ring-tones for different people - used "Sugar Sugar" for hubby, "Wild Thing" for my oldest son, fun barking dogs for calls from home, and a special ringtone for my sister-in-law across the street whom I often don't feel like talking to ... or at least have to be prepared before talking to ("sorry, I can't pick your kids up today ... again!", etc. )

How did you get a phone for free?
Teehee, that special ringtone for your sister in law sounds like a good idea though

I'm happy because we have a new happy thread.
Also because my knitting prospers nicely. Also because I may get part of Saturday December 6th off work.

I had an audition just now for a paid position as a Bass in one of the local church choirs.
The guy gave me a really dubious look when he first saw me, and then later when I was done singing he said that considering how thin I am, he was shocked at how large my voice is. He said he needs to hear some other basses, but he thought I would make a really good addition to the choir because even though I'm not a real bass, I don't "grab" for the low notes like a lot of low voices do. Soooooooooo he'll be back in touch with me by Wednesday. I may not get the job though, because frankly I'm slightly under-qualified. O.o Let me put it this way: The other bass that I'd be singing with if I get hired is the head of the freaking voice department at one of the local universities. o.O Apparently there's one recent graduate, so she's about 26, then there's a 25 year-old... but other than that it's "old timers"... so at 20 I'd be the youngest by quite a stretch. I wont be surprised if he finds someone a little older and more experienced than I am. |

I have the job.
MAYBE. He's going to have me sing with them on Wednesday night and see how it goes. I'm a bit nervous because my allergies decided to kick in last night... BUT with the new techniques my teacher is having me use, I haven't completely lost my ability to sing like I would've last semester. So I should be okay... especially because EVERYONE in the voice department was miserable today... I think we're all allergic to cedar pollen. So I tentatively have the job. I'm SO FREAKING EXCITED. Also my voice teacher said he would gladly allow me to do a recital either next semester or next fall, and he said that while my goal of auditioning for the Met is looking a little too far ahead... he does think that I have the instrument to make it, just we need to give it a year or two to see if it continues to mature with the same sound, and to see what my aptitude for continuing to learn it is. I'm nervous and excited for the future. I have my plans, and even if the Met is looking too far ahead... I'm gonna keep my eye to that telescope . I know my limitations now, but I can always dream about what they MIGHT be, some day . |

Despite being sick I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG, I'm so excited. It was amazing, too. I stepped into the director's office with him before everyone else got there because he wanted to test my sight singing, and BAM. I totally sight read everything at tempo with almost zero difficulty... It's proof there must be a God, because I can promise you that only divine intervention could have allowed me to sight sing THAT WELL . I mean I was ON IT. I've never sight sung that well before in my entire life. |

Once Upon a Mattress.
I saw it for the first time a few days ago, and my family saw it today. It's a new hit . Our big ones have always been Pirates of Penzance, and the Court Jester... so I guess now we can add Once Upon a Mattress... I'm pretty sure we'll buy the DVD to own at home some time soon . |

I'm 20 . I wasn't actually intoxicated... I had a glass of wine and a few splashes of cognac in my coffee... I'd have to be considerably more lightweight for the amount/style of drinks I had to actually make me tipsy, or really to even feel more than a very light buzz .
