Can we trust each other?
How much do you lie on the internet? How much do you trust your internet mates? Are you who you say you are?
We are all regular users of the internet, what do you think of all the 40-year-old pervert issues? |

I think you could leave out the "forty year old" part and just stick with pervert!
It's a dangerous world......so better to be safe than sorry, there are most certainly weirdos out there, so you had better be careful! Listen to your parents!!

Yeah, with better safe than sorry, always be cautious. But total anonymity isnt always needed, its nice to have friends and such etc. A buncha people chatting about a commen intrest...I guess in places like this, were all pretty trusting.

Here's what I think.
I think that on the net people can discuss things more freely. Online a lot of people are more willing to talk and voice their opinions because no one can see who they are and attack those opinions in person. Generally I'm trusting of people I meet on the net, because the majority haven't got a reason to lie, or pretend to be someone else. If I think someone is acting weird, I'll avoid them if I can. But people I've met online I mostly trust. I have a friend who I write to a lot, and I met her online. I'm writing to EG, and this year I'm planning on going to Seattle to visit her. (And she wants to come to England to see me) I have met with online friends in the past and there were no problems. On the 19th of Feb I'm going to an Interview at Swansea University, and am meeting another internet friend then. Basically with me, if you're not who you say you are, and have managed to lie to me over email, Yahoo messenger and such so well that I beleived you, and then I find out you lied, I'll kick your ass! So far, that's never happened. There are my thoughts. After all, not everyone is a weirdo!

I guess, if you like talking to them, just give them the benefit of the doubt, (on places like this )As long as you dont get too involved in their personal life, why would they bother to lie? If you think you trust them, then trust them, but keep a reasonable distance..... Er....So bad...at...putting what im trying to say into words.

Well...I lie when I'm in chatrooms...I say I'm 15/f/The Undying Lands. Not saying I'm not from Valinor.
But for Entmoot...Generally everything I say (including this!) is true.

Hmm...Can't remember ever lying about my ID on the Web. I don't think it's necessarily to reveal too much, but what I do reveal, as far as I remember is true. I've told my name to a few people (esp. since when I send an email, it says my name ), but not very many.

I trust Legolaslover! because she is one of my best friends and we are in the same class!
But I tend to not trust any one else that much that I meet on chatrooms that much. For all I know they could be gross old people who are trying to get me to trust them and then..... yah. you get the picture. So I don't know. I trust some people more then others but still. I don't give out any personal info. Just in case. And I haven't lied on entmoot (not as far as I know). Last edited by Lady of Rohan : 02-04-2003 at 06:09 PM. |

I never lie online. I'm on a first-name basis with several people who I only know over the net.
