How much did it cost? any net places you can buy it?
I wouldn't say a maia is the same as an angel.

Maiar and angels are not the same thing; they are similar in some ways, but they are not the same. Maiar are sometimes referred to as angels to explain to those who are not as well-versed in Tolkien lore, though; no doubt that's why they said that.

I would have to disagree with you, Gwaimir - Tolkien refers to the Valar and the Maiar as angelic beings many times in "The Letters of JRR Tolkien"; letter #131 is just one example. (hard to beat "Letters" for going "straight to the Master" )

Angelic beings, yes, certainly, but not actually "angels"; at least, I never thought so.
Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the Letters. I have it in my shopping cart on amazon.com, but I can't check out yet; I'm supposed to be purchasing a laptop (we seem to be having trouble actually getting to pick it up), and I have to pay for that, and then I have to make sure I have enough for the books there, which is another 100+ dollars. But hopefully, I'll have my copy by the end of next week (by the end of January, almost definitely.

I got one! I don't like what he said on That Gollum gave away his Ring to Bilbo that wasn't how it happened. But that is the only thing I didn't like. The rest is Good!

I got myself a copy. It's pretty much "Tolkien for Dummies" or "A Primer of Tolkien" and arranged like an FAQ. It's a quick read but there are dubious intepretations and insights.
He states that December 25th or Christmas coincides with the Fellowship's departure from Rivendell and that March 25th (the day Sauron is defeated) coincides with Easter Sunday. He seems to forget that, although the dates were correct with respect to the LOTR appendices, the hobbit calendar is not exactly the same as our current calendar. Also, Easter falls on different dates from year to year. I gave it as a Christmas gift to one of my cousins who is now starting to eat, sleep and breathe Tolkien.
