Wow, to think that I will be the only person to see it for 225-60,00 years! pretty amazing, I'll take a picture so my children and grandchildren will believe me!

And what, why? It's not a big deal - unless you are into that sort of stuff. Normal ppl , like i'm assuming your grandchildren will be, would probably care less. Things like this happen all the time - believe me. What, in my short lifetime of 15 years ive seen about 2 or 3 (i think two) comets that only come around every 15 and the other 75 years or so. I've also seen the planets very close. They are often doing that. They mean that this PARTICULAR thing won't happen for a while - similar ALL THE TIME. Plus, how exactly would you take a picture of it? I skimmed the article and it seems like it won't be as bright as the moon usually is - um if it is dimmer than the moon, it can't really stand out THAT much. Whenever they say stuff like this, I am always disapointed.

Well,
I understand where you are coming from...but...I just can't help but think "Next time this happens I'll be dead, and no one will remember me." Morbid, a little. *Yoda mode off**Hates Yoda Mode*

Tristan, shut up.
Anyway, I'm excited. There's a certain beauty about mars, and it's great that it's passing by so close. I only wish I had a telescope to view it with. |

Hey, this is exciting. I think I saw Mars last night in the east, though I'll have to check my planisphere to be sure. I do have a small telescope somewhere in the garage, but you still need a fairly big one to see mars well. You'll still have much more sucess viewing saturn and jupiter.
Hey, if it gets people interested in astronomy and science, it has to be good, doesn't it?

I like space and the stars. I was just posting in response to squirel, who was reaaaaaallly excited and wanted to even take a picture to prove it to his/her grandkids.
I was just saying that although this could be cool, it happens all the time. Not this particular thing. But other planets will be close to us or align or SOMETHING. Usually I am disapointed and you can barely see them as much more than a bright star. Is this going to be the same size as the moon in the sky? THEN that would be amazing. If it will only be the size of say, Polaris, then I wouldn't get excited over that.

If it was as big as the moon I'd be getting very worried. But that's through a telescope. I doubt, however, it would be brighter than Venus. It will still be difficult to see many features on Mars with a modest telescope.

why, compared to Mars the moon is small, so for them to be about the same size would be something to get to scared over.

The moon is much closer to us than mars is. We see the moon as being bigger because it is closer.

yah, i know that, but in actuality, Mars is far bigger then the moon so it can be further away then the moon anbd still appear as the same size

Yes, but not at the tremendous distance away it is in actuality.
