Is a Woman President controversial?

I don't think it is. I don't think many people do either, but, in my opinion, Hillary seems to be 'cashing in' on that issue...
Thoughts?

it's never happened in the US before, so it is for that reason... i think it'd be a good thing though... in a broad sense, from managing and working with other big corporations i tend to find female management a bit easier to work with temperment-wise... obviously there are exceptions on both sides, but i think it'd be worth a shot

We (Canada) had a female primeminister for a few months, a couple of years ago, and it didn't raise too many conflicts....but who would be the first lady? :P

We have a female president, and there's nothing controversial about that. Next year we have elections, and she'll probably be re-elected.

Though the US is an entirely different case, I guess..

Well, as BJenkin's said above...it would be a first. But I don't see why it would be tough...you see there's also a new show out over here about Geena Davis becoming president. It makes it look very taboo, and it just isn't.
But I'm starting to ask myself wether we're bieng made to think so: with the new show, and with Hillary's early campaigning.
You see, I don't think many people over here have a problem with it. But if people are made to think it's considered taboo-ish, people might get indignant, and perhaps a resounding victory for a woman candidate will be the result.
The thing to do though is make sure the right woman gets in.

I like Rice and would vote for her in a heart beat. That would almost be two minorities in one. Quite an accomplishment for those two groups I would say.

Oh, change for the sake of change. That's good. Hilary or Martha? The former is a self-aggrandizing latent Marxist and the latter a convicted felon.

Hmm, almost as good a choice as say Slick Willie or Al Gore!

What do people have against Hilary Clinton? Genuine question; what's the reason for the vitriol?

I have nothing against her, except for the fact that she's too conservative for my taste. And no, I'm not being sarcastic, I'm absolutely serious. There isn't a single viable Democrat in my opinion, since the Dems have swung so far to the right they have simply become Republican Lite, imo.

Well, Entmoot doesn't crash or anything when Nurvingiel stands in for you as president, Hector. So I think the US would be fine with a female chief of state

I'd like to see a woman president in the US soon. I think it would send positive signals around the world.

I agree.. Though it of course shouldn't be about gender. It isn't very durable to vote for a person just because that person is of a certain gender, we should rather vote for the person and the views and thoughts they stand for.

Lots of countries have had female leaders - it's not a big deal. I think it would be a mistake for any candidate to deliberately make it seem controversial, because that can alienate as many people as it attracts. Personally, if I were running for office, I'd want voters to judge me as a politician rather than as a woman.

Good luck with that... Margaret Thatcher was one of the most controversial PMs we've ever had, but not because she was a woman

as i said, there are exceptions

but in general i find women more flexible and less hung up on principles from my personal experience (a plus in my mind)
