Questions of those who served in the military.
What are your general impression if any of those who do not serve?
What was the best part? The worst? What would you change? Any thoughts on the current conflicts in Iraq and Afhganistan?

2. Travel the world and see exotic places. 3. Get dysentery and deal with it. 4. The pay scale. 5. We shouldn't have NG troops there, it isn't what they signed up for. Either have a force large enough or don't go there.

1. At the time I felt those who, like my brother, declared themselves conscientious objectors, were exercising their rights. And I thought my job was to protect them.
2. I made great friends. Best memory is watching the sun set from the fantail after a hard day's work. (It was a destroyer. http://www.uss-barney-ddg6.org/ ) 3. There are no girls at sea. 4. I agree with Spock. More money. 5. People who support the war say they support the troops. The way to support the troops is to give them what they need to do the job and come home alive. A bumpersticker means nothing. It costs a couple cents. Who does it support? They need body armor. The regular army guys get the new armor, the guardsmen get leftovers, if there are any. Too many screwups. How on earth did we let them get that cache of weapons and explosives. One day it was there, next day it was gone. Next thing you know, they have so much explosives they can send in a few suicide bombers a week and keep it going for years. Our troops are like the redcoats, marching in a straight line while the minute men hide in the bushes. It looks like we went in without a plan. Very sad. Typical military method. Follow the book, keep your mouth shut, pray you make it home. I really feel for those men and women. And it galls me that someone is getting rich off it. Maybe I've said too much. I hope it's OK if I put this link here. It is a page linked to many organisations that do actual service to the troops in Iraq. It's just a bit more productive than a ribbon-shaped sticker on your bumper. http://www.fisherhouse.org/support/support.shtml Last edited by Elfhelm : 06-29-2006 at 01:57 PM. |

At the end of the conflict in Viet Nam, for 2 years. I didn't go to Nam. I joined because I love my country and would do it again. *shrug* p.s. Gwai, there's a link to the ship I was on up there. |
