Book deviations and film spoilers
It is impossible for me not to read spoilers. I have no will power and can't wait to discover anything new about the Return of the King film. But I will admit that the news that...
I was cool with the news about Arwen and the flight to the ford, I was okay with the news that Boromir has a moment with the ring, I was fine with the wizard's dual....but this news has given me a queazy feeling in the pit of my stomach. I need to keep repeating to myself what I've told many of you about those other changes: Don't get worked up about what you've heard until you actually SEE how it is handled. I will follow my advice but I will admit that this is one bit of news that I'm a little worried about. The one thing that helps is that all of the early reviews are extremely positive. |

Cass - it's just the type of stuff i expect from Jackson. He can't have Frodo and Sam be friends - as I have said since FotR - he LOVES conflict. Jackson will put in conflict when there is absolutely no conflict.

this is really no suprise. I mean Frodo first told Sam to not come with him ( i know book FOTR) then argued with Sam in TT, next he about killed Sam with Sting. So the way PJ has built this up one could almost expect Frodo to do something unrational and unrealistic like this. But despite everything I'm kinda excited to see how this scene turns out.

didn't you notice PJ foreshadowing to this, TT "I don't usually mind to foreign food, but this elvish stuff isn't bad" -Sam (something to those lines.) So Frodo is even starting to suspect this back in TT.

And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin "Oh. If the scene plays out dramatically AND stays true to the characters, I'll be fine with it.
My first reaction was, "whoa...say WHAT!?!?!?" but to be fair, if I had heard a TTT spoiler that Arwen gets pissed off with Aragorn because he tries to give her back the Elvenstar I would have had the same "what the f..." reaction. However, that scene between the two worked incredibly well and gave viewers a glimpse at Arwen's strength and class. |

That particular deviation that may or may not occur is so incredibly stupid I can't believe it will happen. I've enjoyed FotR and TTT, despite a few scenes that I found silly or pointless. If this rumour is true about RotK, it's all over. I would no longer be a fan of the movies.
That being said, I will look forward to RotK, and wait until I've seen it before I pass judgement. So BB, are you saying that... Jackson's adaptation isn't perfect?

The point of making the movies was to bring the stories that JRRT wrote to the big screen. It was NOT to use the character names, place names and title of the 3 stories to big screen and deviate so much from the story that it no longer resembles what JRRT's envisioned. I find PJ's deviations from each story FotR, TTT and now finally (the worst of the 3 movies, I'm quite sure) RotK to be a mockery. I liken it to Morgoth's making of the Orcs in Middle Earth.

Just a side note to SGH: did the "Jackson is a hack" thread get closed because of the spamming? Or because it was dissent about the movie maker being a "genius". If so, will all movies threads that assert the disappointment with the movies be closed? |
