The absolute love sotry?
Ever wondered why the Tale of Beren and Luthien was called the Release from Bonds?
I'd like to suggest an explanation here. I think Tolkien meant for Beren and Luthien's story to be a representation of true and pure love. So that when they were on Earth, the utmost and most intimate expression of their love was physical (and what little "spiritual" contact that afforded them). However when they died and went away together, they were released from the bonds of the flesh and their souls could merge completely in the purest, most divine expression of love possible. This is what I think of Beren and Luthien's story...what do you think? |

Welcome to the moot, Beren!
This is an old thread about the subject: The Lay of Leithian - Release From Bondage I like your explanation, too.
