Advertisement problem
When people see that message "When making an advertisement, please use the apropriate thread in the general discussion" I think that they think that (Try saying that 10 times fast) you mean to post advertisements in the General messages forum. So if you put a new message at the top like:
FOR EXAMPLE: If you'd like to make an advertisement, please use the apropriate thread HERE People would be advertiseing in the correct thread. If they read it. I think our problem is that they read it, just not carefully enough. |

Re: Advertisement problem
I'll make that change and we'll see if the situation improves, then.
People are normally good with the policy but this week has seen a surge in spamming... |

Re: Advertisement problem
Hehehe.
That's one of the drawbacks of being a popular ezboard... people come and spam. But that's basically all we admins do, since people are generally behaved. Isn't it exciting to close an ad thread, IP? At JC I'm sure you'll do a lot more exciting stuff |

Re: Advertisement problem
Yes, this place is civil
I don't think spammers would care what it says, they spam, despite rules, that's what they do. |

Stupid Idea!
Make a person be a local EZBoard Gandalf (Because I'm sure it is already taken as a Global account) and give them MOD powers and the custom title:
Entmoot Ad-Zapper |

Re: Stupid Idea!
that's a great idea!
i think that the admins should be more liberal in dispensing Smelly Orcs - it may not stop the spam but it's pretty funny... aryne * |

Ummmm...
Have I been "advertising?" Or is the offense you're talking of more egregious than my signature and enthusiasm?
You must remember, I am only a little Hobbit, after all! |

Re: Ummmm...
Oh no...you are just fine. If you were doing anything wrong, someone would have told you by now anyway.
What gets us upset is starting a thread for the sole purpose of advertising a product, another ezboard, or web site (unless it is some very cool site that you want to share, and even then it should be a legitimate thread, not a "hit and run"). |

Re: Ummmm...
That's great! I was afraid that I might have been walking a line and the rest of you were simply too gracious and polite to make an issue out of it.
I think ENTMOOT (and ELVENHOME, where I am also tolerated), are a great resource and fellowship for Tolkien fans! I certainly wouldn't want to tread on any furry toes! This has been a great deal of fun, and I do hope to contribute something to these rewarding discussions. One day, I'll even learn how to do the little Smileys and such! (Been busy...) |

Re: Ummmm...
Don't worry about that Gil I think I have been more borderline than you and I'm still tolerated (Appreciated?<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\"> )
But I'm addict to this board. I almost always get online as soon as I come back from my job! |

Solution
There is indeed an advertising problem here. The solution is simple: make advertising except in the appropriate thread an offence warranting permanent banning. Put a big notice up at the top announcing this. It should make people take note of it. Also report all global spammer accounts to EzBoard so that they can be shut down.
It seems like a severe line, but the fact is that spamming is a very serious matter. It clogs up boards. Take a tough line on this IMHO. |

Re: Solution
Spammers don't come back as a rule, so banning them is poinltess. We edit out the add so what they did helps them in no way at all, that's enough. Oh, and smelly orc was a joke, we wouldn't shame someone like that, at least I don't think we would
