Star Trek - New Movie for 2008
Sona Mobile and Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products announced recently a partnership to develop a rich content enabled mobile device offering an unprecedented level of functionality. Themed after STAR TREK communicator devices popularized by characters on the science fiction television and movie series, the special edition Communicator Phone offers fans of cool mobile technology the ability to play a multi-player, online STAR TREK game, stream real-time video, and surf the Internet as well as access ring tones, wallpapers, news, information, and STAR TREK fan activities.
The STAR TREK Communicator Phone is powered by Sona Mobile's Sona Wireless Platform™ (SWP), which offers multi-threading capability for running several applications concurrently. The SWP makes it possible for end-users to stream video clips while simultaneously text messaging a friend or accessing information on the Internet, without negatively impacting device performance. The phone will come equipped with a custom STAR TREK faceplate and other themed features unique to the franchise. It will be available beginning September 30, 2005. Yes, the inspiration behind all these flip-phones was the communicator from the original Star Trek series.
This is plans to have a phone that looks more like the Star Trek communicator. Basically a toy that is actually a real phone. I wonder who would get it besides trekkies? Can't wait to see some pics of it........

New Thread Title
As this thread was still hanging around for over a year and as I started it in the first place; I changed the title to bring you this news event:
Report: 'Star Trek' set for '08 revival Variety: J.J. Abrams to take the helm Friday, April 21, 2006; Posted: 8:32 a.m. EDT (12:32 GMT) 'Star Trek' LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- More than three years after the last "Star Trek" movie crashed at the box office, the venerable sci-fi franchise is being revived by the director of the upcoming "Mission: Impossible" sequel, Daily Variety reported in its Friday edition. The as-yet-untitled "Star Trek" feature, the 11th since 1979, is aiming for a fall 2008 release through Paramount Pictures, the Viacom Inc. unit looking to restore its box-office luster under new management, the trade paper said. The project will be directed by J.J. Abrams, whose Tom Cruise vehicle "Mission: Impossible III" will be released by Paramount on May 5. Abrams, famed for producing the TV shows "Alias" and "Lost," will also help write and produce. Daily Variety said the action would center on the early days of "Star Trek" characters James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, including their first meeting at Starfleet Academy and first outer-space mission. The paper described "Star Trek" as Hollywood's most durable performer after James Bond, spawning 10 features that have grossed more than $1 billion and 726 TV episodes from six series. The 10th film, "Star Trek: Nemesis," bombed at the box office on its December 2002 release, earning just $43 million in North America. Last year, Viacom-owned broadcast network UPN pulled the plug on the low-rated series "Star Trek: Enterprise" following a four-season run.
