do you like your movies full screen or wide screen?
So, do you like your movies full screen or wide screen for your VHS and/or DVD movies?
All my VHS tapes are in full screen (didn't have much choice in it - my mom hated wide screen and she bought them). So far though, all my DVDs are in widescreen (like 5-6) I prefer wide screen - you get the whole screen, the way it was seen in the theater. With fullscreen, the ends of the film are cut off and people elongated and distorted. Your thoughts?

Definitely widescreen. I used to prefer fullscreen, but since I realized that I was missing things with it, I've gone over to the widescreen side.

Widescreen all the way, baby! I can't stand the thought that I might be missing detail due to the movie being cut to fit a standard tv screen.

Oh, WIIIIIIDE-screen, totally! I don't really like that everything is smaller, but it's better than missing stuff. Watching movies is a hobby to me, and wide-screen is closer to actually going to the movies, therefore, closer to perfection. Not to mention when a shot needs to be seen in wide-screen to get all of it, and it has to pan back and forth... I don't really like that. So, definately widescreen.
My parents didn't do DVDs for the longest time, so most of my movies are VHS, and full-screen. Now that we have dvds, though, most of them are widescreen.

It depends, most of the time I don't notice anything wrong with full screen. And on some TV's widescreen becomes so tiny because of the two black bands above and under the film. It's a waste of perfectly good screen space if you ask me.
So full screen, except on big screens, then I'd prefer widescreen.

I prefer widescreen because you whether you realise it or not you actaully lose some of the action when its formatted for full screen.

Widescreen ONLY. I used to have arguments with people because they actually thought the film was being cut off because of the black at the tops and bottoms. I always used to try to explain why that was and that actually the full screen is the version being cropped. I had pan-scan versions. You lose a lot of cinematic affect in a lot of movies when you can't see the full scenary or see all the characters speaking, or the behind the scenes action.

I prefer to watch it as the director intended it to be shown. I don't mind watching a 16:9 or even a 2.35:1 film on my 4:3 set. My next TV will definitely be a widescreen set.

I prefer widescreen, but only have full screen tvs. So unless it's a movie, I'm usually watching regular ol' tv. When it comes to movies, though, I find that widescreen is best (provided the monitor isn't too small that the widescreen gets too little to make out).
