Liars and deceivers
One of my biggest pet peeves are people that lie. What is so hard about telling the truth? Why do people time and time again pretend that they are something that they aren't?I've always prided myself on being truthful and forthright.I was inspired to create this thread due to all of the deception surrounding the current existing bans.Your thoughts?

I am intensely curious surrounding the bans. I demand to know why there are such bans.

I just think that people that lie all of the time arent ever taken the right way,or even seriously at that. They claim to be one thing but are another.People can't portray people correctly if they aren't upfront with others. But yet they always complain that they aren't taken the right way. Some people need to get real.

I've bumped into folks on the net who live total fantasy lives on here......reinventing themselves or totally fictionlising who and what they are. If that is their form of escapism then I have no problem with that as long as it doesn't affect my Real Life. Like you say tho'......people will never take them seriously.....if they are happy with the fantasy internet life fine......as long as they are aware that it will always be a shallow one. |

Yes, right here... *looks at title* I'm sorry, I just see 'liars' and assume it's going to be followed by 'anonymous'...
Yes, I have that little truth obcession now... many, many songs I've written cannot escape the word 'truth' or 'true' or something in it. This was brought on by a bit of a break up... anyway, my motive in breaking up was that I was tired of her being such a show... it was someone I saw in and out of school, and I was dating two people. She took it very badly and reverted, intreguingly, to the one I didn't like only. But actually, I don't feel bad about the whole (actuall nasty and drawn out) affair (that is the break up) because I learnt the truth about the person. It made me accutely aware of the genuineness of my other friends. I don't know... I wouldn't change the past because I learnt the truth. But is that what you were getting at? I mean, do you mean complsive liars or people living a fraud?

So this is a vent thread interspersed with gloating?
Thanks, but I don't consider my luck bad. Live and learn. I sincerely mean I don't feel I've lost a tremendous deal.

I don't know about "justified" but the anonymity afforded from the net certainly seems to make lying easier for some people. Also there is the level of deception involved. A lot of people like to pretend they are handsome/rich/beautifull/mega succesfull on the net....which I suppose is all superficial and they are only fooling themselves. It's when the deception turns evil (this horrible practice of peadophiles decieving children etc) that deception is certainly not justified. I suppose it's like the old wives saying "A white lie isn't a lie, because it doesn't hurt anyone" As for the current 'moot "scandal" pretending to be someone else entirely to circumvent a ban.......I don't see the point at all, the same with alt nicknames....most of us use messageboards to socialise.....wot's the point if your former friends don't know it's you? *shrugs* Quote:

Hm, I may be not the most truthful person around, I have lied sufficiently in my life. Mostly to cover up for my laziness and lateness with tasks , and sometimes so spare somebody's feelings or to keep somebody's secret safe.
But I have never lied about who I am or posed as someone else who was different from me. I don't see any reason to do so because I am content with who I am and above that, it's not fair to the others. If you can't trust somebody to be truthful about simple things like who you are, than what can you trust? Which is why I have repeatedly (and will probably continue to do so) fallen for second identities of Entmoot posters. Maybe I am too trusting, although naive and gulilbe is probably a better suited word. But there is little fun to be had from deceiving me because I will with a high probability fall for anything. Honesty dicates me to say that I doubt I could pull it off, pretending to be somebody different from myself. There would always be enough of me shining to identify me. Besides, I'd feel bad for trying. I can understand why people would lie about themselves, here on the internet or in real life, but I can not agree with it. There are some who don't like who they are or fear they won't be liked or accepted the way they are. But there are also some who take joy out of deceiving people and letting people believe things that aren't.

guess i missed a bit over the last few days... who's banned?
on lying... i generally agree that the truth is a good thing, but one should never let the facts get it the way of a good story there are harmless lies, entertaining lies and well-intentioned lies... the question should be, is there a victim?
