please dont take things too seriously - I was only pulling the proverbial leg - as a nation you do tend to get a bit shirty if your not the best at something ! I was actually drawing a parallel between american football ( where you use your hands ! isnt the name 'football ' a bit of a giveaway! ) and real football, but never mind. As for ' a long time ago', please, how long has the us football league been going , your new kids on the block, know your place in the footballing world ! As for not knowing what im talking about, I have played in football teams for 29 years now , and have had a season ticket with my club ( premiership ) for 15 years - I have seen some of the best teams in Europe year in year out ( Man utd circa 1990s, Liverpool circa 1980s , Everton circa mid 1980s and Arsenal circa 2000 ) i have visited most of the premiership grounds and even some in Europe .You do tend to pick up a bit over the years ( even watching has beens from the football league going for the - preki, Mo Johnson et al ),so i may not be John Motson ( bet you havnt got a motty !) but I think I can hold my own ( !!! )

GO BRAZIL!

I don’t think Coreia will be able to win, unless we see a lot of dubious referee interventions…wait, it have been occurring already.

Like the old saying says, once is bad luck, twice is an unfortunate coincidence, three times is …

Its time we call Mulder and Scully, methinks.

Seriously,
I believe you are speaking of the team captain’s band, that the player uses on his arm?

Alrighty, several things to adress.

1.
Quote:
please dont take things too seriously - I was only pulling the proverbial leg
It's Ok, I was just a little too ticked I think. Like I said, I'm a partiotic freak.

2.
Quote:

Yeah, I do agree with you on that. *shrugs* I guess we just want to do our best, and make our country proud. But I think we know that at this stage, we are not the best as far as soccer goes, and will not be for a while.

3.
Quote:
I was actually drawing a parallel between american football ( where you use your hands ! isnt the name 'football ' a bit of a giveaway! ) and real football
Really? I just assumed that when anyone form outside the U.S. says "football", they mean our soccer, unless they say "American football", inwhich case they mean football, wth your hands. Whatever. I guess we'll just have to make ourselves clear...

4.
Quote:
As for ' a long time ago', please, how long has the us football league been going , your new kids on the block
I'm not sure how long the national league has been established, but AYSO has been going ever since 1964. That may not be long compared to other countries, however nearly 40 years is a long time for anything.

5.
Quote:
know your place in the footballing world !
See my response to #2.

6.

I don't doubt your knowledge of soccer. I recognize that we're not as good as many other teams out there. But a friend of the family who lives in South Africa and has been watching soccer for a long, long time told my mom in an email that the US team was doing very well and that they were playing like seasoned soccer players. You have to at least give us credit for making it this far, I wasn't expecting it at all. I mean, we got farther than France, who won 4 years ago! You have to admit that we are starting to become more recognized in the world of soccer.

7. As for who will win, I have to go with Brazil. That doesn't mean I'm supporting them, I just think they have the best chance. At this stage of the gameIi'm not really cheering for anybody, I'm just watching to see what the outcome will be.

Could someone clue me in about the whole shirt-exchanging thing? Is it a sort of primeval urge for a trophy of victory or what? How long have they been doing it? I don't think that I saw it at the last World Cup. They might have done it, but I don't guess that I noticed it.

i have to agree with you about the US team, they have improved out of site and are only lacking a couple of world class players to be right there with the likes of Brazil,France and Italy ( dont be fooled by this world cups results, france and Italy will come storming back over the next few years ).
I have met one of your squad a few times at my club, Joe - max
Moore, really nice guy, but unfortunately he has had to play all over Europe to gain work / experience etc - this I think is the problem for the USA now , you need a top class competitive home league in order for your national team to improve. Mind you what do I know , England ( after all the hype !!!) were not particularly good in the creative dept, but they did well on professionalism and guts - I do think by the time the European champs' comes round in Portugal, we will be a much better side.

Khamul - the [layers swap shirts as momentos of the game, sometimes they do it on the pitch, sometimes in the dressing room afterwards. As well as personal momentos, the more famous players shirts are often auctioned for charity and can raise an awful lot of money - I think also it is something to do with
showing respect for the opponent.
